I think they are called bow jax...its a rubber piece that looks like a Z it works great. I now wrap my string tips with wool, put a set of bow jax and a set of fur balls all that coupled with a 9 strand string has made my bow deathly quiet!

Be sure to tune the bow properlý and find that sweet spot with the brace.

Heavy arrow, two sets of whiskers, and a thicker, well waxed string. I shoot LBs, so I dont wrap the strings with wool.

A few less strands in the string with padded loops and about 10 strands of yarn at the 1/4 points.  (for a longbow)

Also heavier arrows (12 gpp or more).

Yeah! What Jason said. Skinny strings, 11-12 gpp, and some yarn-no problem!

I think yarn probably does the best job of quieting the bow, but we have a thing called burrs in this area. They love to hop onto yarn puffs and turn them into matted little dingleberry looking things. So, I use cat whiskers...not quite as quiet, but burrs hate them.

I use the extra heavy duty Rubber whiskers. I cut them 6" long, fold them in half, attach to the bowstring using a granny knot. Pull down both ends hard and cut to your desired length with a siccors.

If you have burrs the string leeches or bowjacks work and wont grap every thing you walk though as will your cat whiskers.If what you have is working I would just go with it.  :)

Beaver fur string silencers,limb savers,string groove silencers for the recurve,14 strand flemish twist string instead of the continues loop strings.And the right spined arrows will help to.I noticed some arrow rest material is quieter than others,when drawing your arrow back.I use the Bear Hair rest.Real quiet.  :thumbsup:

Mark, don't look for a cosmetic to cure your string noise issue. Buy three different strings. You will be amazed at the different sound or lack of that comes from each type. Every time I buy a new bow If I'm unhappy with the noise level that's the first thing I do.

mark;

i have to agree with kentuckytj; i have always found that 90% of noise has to deal with the string itself; i also buy different strings and try them because the material that is used can "go against" the different kinds of woods in the bow; i have found that some bows like the flemish over fastflight and have had some bows like the fastflight over the flemish; i believe one needs to focus on the string before adding any silencers.....  :campfire:

In my own experience a string with fewer strands is quieter.  I've noticed a huge difference between 18 strands of fast flight and 8 strands of 8125.

Arkansaslongbow, excuse me but, Flemish is a style of bowstring and fast flight is a a name of a material used. This has been a confusing term over the years. I think you meant, endless type.

  My oppinion and experience has been a heavy arrow, correct brace height, for the particular bow makes a big differnce! I have not had silencers on my longbows, mostly selfbows, in many years. It seems humans are more sensitve to the sound, then the whitetails I have shot! And yes, I know someone is saying, not the Texas Whitetails! Good shootin, Steve

The best thing I have found was going with an 8 strand 8125 string with padded loops (50-55lb bows). After that all I needed was small wool strands at 1/4 pts. I would say a 6 or 8 strand DF97 would do the same thing. Steve

I shoot a 650 grain wood arrow from my bow with a dacron string and do not need silencers.

it's a 51 pound widow recurve and still quite fast.
