Bear Razors

My 13 year old son has picked up my old Grizzley and has gooten GOOD with it.  He wants to hunt with it this year and wants to use Bear razors for broadheads.  Are they good heads and are they still made?  I have one that my Father used when he hunted with this bow but thats all I can find.  thanks   >>-------->del

If he is shooting wood arrows and needs glue-on razors, then you will have to look around for some old ones for sale. Don't worry, they are not hard to find. Bear still makes the screw in type of razor heads, and you can buy them from any of the on-line trad dealers. Remember that the glue-on razorheads are very light, and will demand a move down in arrow spine if he is shooting 125 gr. field points.
They are great heads, sharpen easily, and are full of history and good mojo.
It is great that you ]have a 13 year old that wants to get out and hunt with a trad bow.

I also have twin 12 year old girls that like to shoot selfbows I made them.  They want to hunt too.  It's gonna be hard to take all 3 hunting at once.  Good times ahead! >>-------->del

   The old green Bear heads is all I hunt with.  They are not still made but you can pick some up from the auction site or classifieds adds at some of the archery sites.  I use the bleeders too.  What I like about these heads is you can easily get them "scary" sharp. They will sell for anywhere from $2.00 to $5.00 each.  Good luck!

I use the Bear 145 gr screw in heads. There a good white tail head. Great blood trails. I have not hunted anything else with them. Trophy Ridge is now making an updated Bear razorhead under bear. I perfer the older style.

Bear razorheads, for me the carbon steel ones, will always be tough to beat. Maybe some look better, are bigger, are newer......but Ol' Fred took HOW MANY different varmints with them?

Including things I'LL never hunt....lol.

The carbon steel ones sharpen very easy for me and have yet to fail me when I used them.

They are around, more than most realize.

Once I get them here, I'll post some photos of some I just picked up on a dozen arrows that I never knew existed......or even made from Bear Archery.

The fact that 8 of them were the 1960 heads....made it a plus.

Check fleabay, usually lots of old arrows with usable heads. Might even be able to use the arrows for your children's stump shooting if you rework em a bit.

At least on critter will have one flung at em this fall along with some stone heads.

Don't forget to spin them after mounting.  THIS IS IMPORTANT WITH ALL BH's, BUT ESPECIALLY WITH BEARS.  The little dents on the ferrule that except the bleeder blade tend to make mounting difficult.

Congrats on your son wanting to shoot and hunt!  I know how great that feels.

The Razorheads will weigh about 115-117 gr new w/o the inserts.  In my experience, 10 grains won't be an issue with spine.  They are good heads and will serve him well.  Like Joe said, good mojo!

Bear made about 3 million of them each year, so even though they are not made now,  they are fairly easy to find.  I've used them for over forty years and can't see any negatives.
