Remove Hot Melt from Points?
« on: June 17, 2009, 05:24:00 PM »
Any thoughts on how to best remove hotmelt from field points? i have been using hotmelt for points but have had more than a few points come off in the target so i am going to try epoxy for my points but i think the hotmelt residue remainign in the point will weaken the bond. any thoughts on how to best remove the remaining hotmelt? thanks, Dan.

You could always use some 60 grit sandpaper and lightly go over the point, that way even if you don't get ALL the hot melt off, the epoxy will have something to stick too.

I've never lost a point cuz of the hotmelt, not to insult, but are you using enough glue? I put it on till it oozes out and then wipe it off.

I have cleaned some points by stirring them around in a small pot of boiling water.

I'm in Van's camp. when I've had to do it I heat the tip to liquify the glue and then used a cotton swab to take out the glue, repeat as necessary. Don't go so hot that the swab turns into a little torch.

Throw the points in the freezer, scrape with small pen knife blade or such. Clean with sanpaper. Good shootin, Steve
