Mentor- Central Ohio
« on: June 20, 2009, 10:56:00 PM »
I am new to trad archery and am overwhelmed starting out.  I have been reading like crazy, but need some experience to guide me.  I was wondering about clubs/mentors in my area.  Any help is appreciated.

There are several guys around Columbus that will probably chime in. Heydeerman is just north of you. Jamie Miller is the OSTA president and I think he is in your area. Check out the state forms toward the bottom of the main page click on Ohio and see there schedule. All else fails PM me and see if we can get together one week end and I help with what little I know. Worst case we can have fun flinging arrows

Joshua,

If you can drive to Centerburg on Thursdays I am mentoring another young man and I could give you some help then.

Joshua,

Take Jim (heydeerman) up on his offer if you can. I have known him a few years and he wont lead you astray.

Also, check out OSTA's website (tradarchers.org) and come to a shoot. You wont find better people anywhere and they are always willing to help new shooters. It is one big family. Bring the family, camp, eat, shoot, and have fun.

The next shoot is a few weeks away (July 11 & 12) near Belfountain.

If I lived that close to Bob Morrison's shop, I would be homeless. But well-armed!

I'm with Killy. But be careful, one step into Bob's shop and you'll be looking for a 2nd job for all the bows you'll want to buy. It's dangerous!!!!!!!!!! Trust me, I know.
Anyhow, Bob is very knowledgeable as well as the others that are mentioned. And if all else fails, drop me a line and we'll meet somewhere and I can try to get you in the right direction.

I second coming to an OSTA shoot.  I shot sprocket rockets for 20 years but had no idea what to do with a trad bow.  Never got serious untill I joined OSTA.  Now I wouldn't miss it for the world. Brian's right, you won't find a better bunch of people, always willing to help.
It is a world with dew still on it, more touched by wonder and possiblitly than any I have since known.
