weight difference in camo and traditional gt shafts
« on: June 27, 2009, 10:28:00 PM »
i have been fletching a few shafts today.  i have 6 trad. gold tips and 6 camo--both kinds are the blems in 55/75 cut to 28.5".  the camo shafts look better to me so that is my hunting shaft.  i fixed them all up and wanted to weigh one for the fun of it to see what a finished shaft came in at. i had been bare shafting with the trad. shaft and knew it should have been at 530+/-.  i weighed the camo shaft with with a 200 gr point and only got 480 out of it.  i weighed a trad. and got 540.  what makes the trad. shaft that much heavier than the camo??/  i know the dipped finish will make the spines a little stiffer, but i really didnt expect that much weight difference since both have a finish on them.  now i have got to go back and fix the trad. shafts to shoot.  i am getting a little wave out of the camo shafts with feathers and i know the trad shaft shoots fine even with a big snuffer.

I am going through a similar thing.I had some 28" 55/75 camo arrows and got them to shoot good with 275 up front.I ordered some trad 55/75's and found they are slightly bigger in diameter.I made some aluminum footings for them but though they fit the camo, they are too small for the trad shafts.Gold tip lists the camo at 8.6 grains per inch and the trads at 9.3.This equals about 20 grains difference at 28".My arrows are exactly 20 grains apart.I would check those weights again.Something sounds off.
