Is there a doc in the house?
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:49:00 AM »
I was up early yesterday morning normal routine of walking a couple miles , ride my bike for a mile, then shoot 50, 60 arrows, Half way thru my shooting I get to about half draw and bottom finger feels like it popped and pain shot up arm to elbow.  Needless to say I could'nt shoot any more and this morning I can put any pressure on finger tip without pain shooting from finger to elbow.
I have a elk hunt in 84 days, got to practice.
Has anyone had  this before and if so what did you do, let it rest, meds, therapy, surgery?

I would go to your doctor and see what he says as soon as possible.Of course rest always helps but I would get the doctors advice, like you say you have 84 days before your hunt.

Carpal tunnel syndrome, possibly?

This is a nerve/tendon situation. See the doctor--

I had that happen to me. Searing pain all the way up my arm. I shot two fingers under for three months, every shot was painful, but it finally went away, and I was ever grateful to shoot three under again.

I suggest seeing a doctor and getting his opinion.

Tendonitis possibly. If so, rest is the only option. Thought mine (hand) would never go away (4-6 monhs). 2 months couldn't hold a glass of water. See your doc.

The exact same thing happened to me in April while at work...

It hurt (ached) for a month. I started to self treat with ICE. Ice cubes in water. Put your hand in until it goes numb.. Your hand only hurt for a few minutes then go numb.. After a few "treatments" my finger is as good as new... If you have 80+ days thats plenty of time...

This could be as simple as tendonitis or as complicated as a an avulsion fx or possible neuropathy...?

I would recommend ice, rest, and a trip to your doctor.

What are the symptoms like now?

I had that some years back..or something similar.

Played hell w/ several docs to find the culprit.. was through MRI's, X-rays, and finally a hand specialist worth his salt hit the nail.

I had what they called "trigger finger". There are tiny hanger brackets along the finger where the tendon rides through what he described like fishing rod "guides". Those got inflamed and then the tendon wouldn't go through and it hurt like I got hit with a cattle prod!

He said if you screw around and tear loose the li'l brackets that hold the "rod guides" in place, it's MAJOR surgery to repair them!

Don't screw around with GP's (No offense docs) but see a bona fide hand specialist NOW!

Few shots of corteson in the RIGHT spot(s) and limited activity, ice and then therapy and it was ok.

I shot 2 under (mine was the ring finger) for 2 years till it was ok to use again.

...and no, I'm not a real doc, just play one on the internet...see a Specialist!  :)
