need help with MFX classics
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:57:00 PM »
Hey Guys, I have some carbon arrows given to me as a gift, problem is I need to remove the HIT inserts to add some frontend weight. What is the best way of removing the inserts? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I have taken a drill bit and put it in the nock end backwards to remove inserts in the past on my goldtips.  You just use it like a slide hammer, face a safe direction and swing the arrow down to the ground as fast as you can might take a few times.  Some guys take a pan and boil some water and just dip the field tip in the water which transfers the heat up and then twist the insert out with plyers,  I don't think you need to leave it in the water long at all (maybe 15 seconds).  Some guys just put a flame to the tip of the feild point and then twist it out.
Have you considered just buying a 125 grain steel adapter and a 16o or so grain broadhead just that will give you 285 not counting the insert, just an option in case you have not thought of it.  Use your own judgement on this I have never tried to remove a HIT insert.  Good luck bud

I bought some used MFX last year and they also had the factory aluminum inserts glued in already.
I wanted to add brass inserts, but didn't want to chance degrading the shaft with heat.

I just swapped the tip end of the arrow to the nock end.  You have to take off about 3/16" of the insert part of the plastic nock so they fit flush, but they still fit tight and work well.

My initial concern was that the aluminum insert in the rear of the arrow would change the spine, but that was not noticable.

The next new dozen I bought, I actually glued the aluminim inserts into the rear of the shafts just to keep the weight the same.  Works well, does ad a little bit of weight.
