Different bows for different hunts.

The last few years I have noticed something in my choice of bows. Probably gonna sound crazy to most but here goes.

  If I`m gonna be "stand" hunting or using my Turkey Blind I without even thinking about it will lean towards a recurve or a r/d hybrid longbow with a locater type grip.If I`m gonna be walking for hogs or deer for that matter I like a Hill style bow.Its nothing to do with bow length at all.

  While I`m shooting in the yard I can shoot the recurve type grips very good for me but I noticed that I seem to take an extra second to get "settled" in and release I do good with them with "set" shots from the tree stand on deer.The Hill style bows I shoot very quick with the same accuracy. I am actually a bit better past thirty yards with the Hill bows.

  My Widow PL seems to fall in between these two variables. Kinda crazy I know.

  I predict at least one deer from the ground this year with " Scooby Doo" my Apex Hill style longbow.The Widow is very sweet but them staight end bows are killers.RC

I'm totally different.  Once I lock into a bow in september I stick with it till after the season is over.

I do somewhat the same, sometimes selecting based on the weight of the bow as well.  Use a relatively short recurve out of a blind for turkeys.  Generally use a 64-inch hybrid for ground and treestand hunting for deer.  Use its big brother, heavier poundage, for elk.  Take out my Hill bows for easy carrying and fast shooting on small game and occasionally for deer.  Not crazy at all.  Folks use different shotguns for targets vs upland birds vs ducks for example, different rifles for woodchucks and coyotes vs deer vs moose.  Makes sense to do the same with bows.

I wish I had the adaptability you guys have.  Once I'm on target with a bow I have no choice but to stick with it.  I have a hell of a time shooting consistent groups if I switch back and forth.

I prefer to keep things simple for me...1 bow with her twin as a backup only 3#s heavier

I will say that I setup all my bows to shoot the same. If I have to think about how to shoot it I won`t have it long.RC

Interesting. Used Hill style longbows only for the past 30 years because 1. preference (draw, pull, flight characteristics, etc.) & 2. to minimize problems afield. That is, familiarity allows for an unconscious shot.

It seems the more we can afford, the more we delve into such things.  I'm much better off now since I'm retired and can't afford a bunch of bows;  I find myself shooting much better and not needing a bunch of different tools to do the same job.  Familiarity doesn't bring contempt.
RC...if you shoot them all well, you have no issues at all 8^).

George, you just shoot better now because you have more time to do it!      

I'm trying to stick with just my Kanatis for this year. I hope familiarity will do for me what it does for George. I killed a deer with one last fall, so I am off to a good start. There are subtle (minor) differences in the grip, but essentially the only difference is the draw weight. To 20 yards, both shoot to the same point of aim. At 25, I have to raise the 46 a bit higher with the same arrow weight.

I can shoot all types of bows well, but not swapping between them.  I always migrate back to the stright bows with a little locater grip.  It just feels the best to me.  Recurves just don't do it for me, except for the GN Ghost I had.  It had a very familiar grip!  I'm gonna have to start building a 50s style recurve.
