how do you straighten a fibreglass fishing arrow?
« on: July 08, 2009, 12:50:00 AM »
i just bought some solid glass arrows. a couple are not straight. how do you get them straight and stay that way?

also, what is the spine of a 5/16" glass arrow.

i'm going to put a garpoon point on and they weigh 500grs. i intend to shoot them out of a 69# recurve.  weak, stiff, what are you thinking?

Clint mate, don't worry about it  :D  It's a rare thing to get a fishing shot over 5 or 6 yards. Unless the shaft is boomerang shaped, a slight bend won't matter. I've shot fish arrows from bows of 30# up to 76# & they all fly well, they're going so slowly that it really doesn't matter mate  :D

Well they should be weak.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

they fit perfectly inside a 2216. so i'm going to put it inside one and immerse it it boiling water and see if that does the trick.

I got one straight that was a little bent by secureing one end and hanging a "18 pipewrench from the other end for a couple days. Not real scientific but it worked  :) .

Ozy, Longstiks got it right. Hang a weight on it till it is straight. This is called "creep", engineers will tell you it doesn't exist but it does. Fiberglass materials will move and take a "set"  under some conditions.
