broadhead adapters for screw ons
« on: July 18, 2009, 11:46:00 AM »
Has anyone used the glue on adapters to allow the use of screw on points and broadheads with wood arrows?  I am using a Hill Redman these days and they love heavy arrows.  I am thinking about the Ashby head but it is only available as a screw in.  Would the aluminum adapter cause weakness at the tip?  Or would it be stronger?

I've used them to repair woodies that have broken behind the head. I'm not certain as to the strength of these adapters, I don't use them with broadheads. Alignment can be a little more challenging since you need to align three pieces now, not two.

I've used them, and don't recommend the type I tried. The taper wasn't deep enough to get the full taper into the adapter, and it was a weak point in the assembly. I had failures during practice sessions. And, as Bowsey said, you have to line up three things instead of two, which can be enough of a challenge. Also, they were made of aluminum, and the threads were easy to strip. It's a lot easier to just get a good glue-on.

If there are any newer types that give better results, I don't know about them. I tend to be kind of out-of-date.    :)
