Glue question
« on: March 28, 2007, 08:19:00 PM »
I'm in the process of switching from wood arrows to carbon. I have always used Duco on the wood shafts for the feathers. A couple of months ago I got a few Bemans to try. I attached the feathers with the Duco and it worked great. Tonight I get out in the back yard to shoot a few and the feathers start flying off the shafts! I don't get it. Why did the glue hold for two months and then decide to let go today? Can you not use Duco with carbons or should I scratch up the shafts with some fine sandpaper before attaching the feathers?

If you try the fletch tape I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I've ruined feathers but the tape holds tight. Easy to take off and change too. Mike

Sanding works great! Be careful though---you don't wanna remove the coating on the shaft. Duco will adhere to just about anything as long as it has something to grab.

Wipe down the shaft real well with lacquer thinner and the use super glue type glue for the fletching and you should not have any problems.  Mark

I've had the best luck with Bohning platinum for the carbons.
