A while back i remember a thread where someone (john scifres perhaps?) did a camo job using strips of masking tape and different colors of spray paint. anyone remember this? i tried searing for it but couldn't find what i was looking for. any help would be appreciated. thanks again, Dan.

Actually, I saw the bow this weekend and it looks even better in person.
Ok, back to the bales with your (mine) '62 Griz.

Thank You guys
That '62 did seem to like you Lon,
you shoot it like an old friend and that's how I feel about mine.
this is a '59, but a factory camo Grizzly and was 1/2 stripped when I got it.
Caleb
I sanded and prepped the bow like the Bow Doc teaches.
I used a Grey Krylon spray paint for a base coat and a $.99 stencil from the craft store, with a lighter grey spray paint for the spots.
just take your time and let it dry before you move it and tape it for the next section. I use a sharpie to outline the lighter Grey spots.
I used tru oil for the final coat.
post some pictures if you do it.

one way is to base coat it flat grey or whatever and using your favorite leaf pattern, go pick a couple leaves off your tree and spray flat green or brown or whatever over it multiple shades of green work well... , makes a great natural pattern, I ve done a bunch of bows..if you think you might ever want it to come off, dont sand it then use acetone or something to remove later..

What Dave said.. I painted a few self bows that I backed with linen and they looked really good. I would say.. spray paint is cheap.. practice on something with the leaves. I ended up like lighter colors first like Dave said. At the end after some leaves I would spray a few lines across too. It can turn out really nice.

I do the leaf thing too- I buy a can of flat black, gray, and OD green and pick a couple of good-looking leaves, and get creative. If it gets scratched up or rubbed off here and there, so what? I paint most of my bows. They're tools for me, not showpieces.
