Arrow help
« on: July 22, 2009, 03:49:00 PM »
Tell me if these sound right, or what you would suggest. I shoot a 55# Grizzly pulled to around 29 1/2.
I've been shooting CX Heritage 250 cut to 31 with a 100grn brass insert and a 150grn point. And also Gold Tip Trad 35-55 with weedeater line so weights at around 590 with a 125grn point.
Paul of Bager arrows was kind enough to send me 6 2016 arrows at 30in. and they shot well with a 125 grn point. All the arrows fly ok, the Gold Tip and CX fly in almost a circle to the target. And the 2016 flew pretty good from what i remember, I've bent up the ones Paul sent me  :(  so I'm going off memory.
Thanks for any advice

I already said I don't know but you ain't getting anything so.  I will ask you do you have a really tight knock fit.  Some recomend to take some sandpaper and double it over and sand the knocks so that if you hold the bow facing down with the arrow facing down you can just bump the string and the arrow falls off.  I did that and I THINK that my arrows grouped a little better, I will say the bow was definatley quieter.  WARNING I have seen where people have said that is not a good idea-but I am a try it for myself guy before I nock it.  Even if the arrow is correct you could have a form problem causing bad arrow flight.  might get a couple 5575s and bare shaft them, different people seem to need differnt arrows for some reason or another.

Marked 55 lb, your Griz could be anywhere from 54 to 58 at 28", but at 29.5", you are pulling around 60 lb.  I would think a 30" 2016 to be kinda weak, a 2117 should be better.  I don't know carbons from corn, but a good wood arrow in 75-79 (.330-.350") should shoot like a dart.

Alright, thanks for the help you guys.
And Fletcher, is it very difficult to put points onto wooden shafts? I've wanted to try them but have been slightly scared of screwing it up somehow.

Sorry I missed for so long, MO.  Installing points isn't hard as long as you have a good taper that is true to the shaft and matches the point taper.  I make my tapers with a disk sander and it works very well.  You can get by with the "pencil sharpener" types but some are better than others.

Don't worry about screwing things up.  That's how we learn most things anyway and most mistakes can be fixed or worked with.
