Shoot better with special heads
« on: July 22, 2009, 11:25:00 PM »
I do not know if its just me or what but i have two arrows with bunny busters on them and one arrow with a bird head with like a 3 inch span. For some reason I shoot far better with small game heads then i do with my field points and broad heads. For my Field and broad heads i shoot at my 18-1 Rain heart target but for my bunny buster and bird head i shoot this little basketball that i kick or throw. So is this the case for anybody else or am i the only one?

I have shot milk jugs out pretty far with a judo on my arrow.  I really doubt i could have hit it if I was wingin arrows at a deer target out there.  When I go stump shooting or 3D shooting I am just shooting one arrow and getting it no fatigue and I surprise myself.  Roving is a tremendous confidence builder.

It's between the ears, my friend.  Most of this sport is.

Well that's one thing am thinking is that am just more confident shooting with these heads and also maybe more focused because when i shoot these heads its most of the time at a moving target but yes having more confidants in anything will make you do better, that is true. But i was just seeing if anybody else has notice this with them self or not.

Dean Torges wrote an article on this called "seeing spots" which explains your problem well.  But, it seems his new site doesn't have this article?

It has something to do with how your brain sees an object.   So that, when you draw and shoot your instinct will allways put that arrow somewhere near the outline of the object.  i.e. the edges of the deer, the edges of a block target, the edge of the ball, the edge of ping pong ball, the edge of the gnat.  When It comes down to it, aim small miss small.

It also depends on how you pratice, if you do most of your pratice with the BB'ster and the ball your gonna get better, gotta mix up your pratice more, or should i say spend more time on the 18-1 target.  I still think you need to paint over the yellow on one side and see if that helps.  how about that ground hog????

I find that proper follow through will tighten groups and make more hits more than anything else (in addition to concentration).
