New to Carbons

I bought two GT 35/55 today at the local archery shop.  I have always shot aluminum so I only bought 2 to try.  I draw to 27 1/2" with my 40# Recurve.  (I try to pull through the release to get all I can form the bow)  The shop owner recomended 28 or 29" with 125 grain pt.  I took his advice and he cut them to 28 3/4" (back of pt to v of knock) and installed the 125 grain pts.  I shot them tonight, they seem to shoot good but I had to quit because the inserts came out when I removed the arrows from my block target.

So, here are my questions
   1)  does this sound like the right weight up front.  it seems everything I have read recommends 200-225 up front.
   
    2)  What glue is good for istalling the inserts.  These were done at noon today and I didn't shoot them until 7:00pm

Those would be way to stiff for me but I am realizing that it really must depend on the person shooting them.

Bud I am learning to just say if it shoots good for you then that is all that matters.  Everybody seems to be different.  I want to compliment you on just buying a couple to try that is a very smart idea.  I know that the guys that used to build my arrows said wait 24 hours to shoot them but it really depends on what glue you are using.  For now I am using Hot melt and have not had any problems yet but that may very well change.

I would suggest using the search feature for that arrow or maybe for your 40# bow and see what combos people have found in the past and then still realize that it may not be exactly what you need and you will have to test.

Jeremy, I am new to this but wanted to share with you what I've learned from searches and reading on this site.  I am switching from alum to carbon.  I shoot a 40# bow too and I am going to try the Gold Tip 1535 (its a 600 spine carbon) and the Axis ST 500 (a small diameter 500 spine carbon).  These test arrows will be set up by next week for bareshafting.  My guess is that the 600 will spine correctly and the 500 will be too stiff even @ full length but I wanted to try it anyway.  
Last year my main problem was that I was  shooting incorrectly spined arrows (but shooting them accurately) and I thought that was good enough.  I did not realize how important proper spine is for penetration.  I'll let you know how the Gold Tip 1535s pan out (a lot of people are shooting the 1535s out of 40lb bows and I believe they are one of the few 600 spine arrows that take the regular 100 grain brass insert.  The other such arrow being the lightweight entrada which is REALLY lightweight and some say delicate for hunting).  I am going to try shooting these carbons w/ about 270 grains up front.  I recently realized that when dealing w/ carbons the spine reacts readily to changes in arrow length but the changes in point weight do not have nearly as much affect on spine.

Great!  I look forward to hearing from you.  What little I shot the 35/55's tonight....I was accurate with them.  I have not bare shafted anything yet.   My concern was the same as yours regarding penetration.  I want the best set up i can get because I REALLY want to hunt with this bow this season.  But I have to be confedent in my set up.  Thanks again.

I think Chris (fishnhunt) is very much on the right track according to my small experience in this.
