changing from a a set up that works.?

Sometimes I dont know what is wrong with me, I get a set up that works perfectly, then want to change it after a couple years, I have bowhunted almost 40 years and shot trad well over 1/2 of that. I have killed alot of game with a longbow and woodies,or aluminum arrows, but seem to shoot a recurve more consistantly so for the last few years I have shot a 63lb widow recurve xx75 shafts and zwickey deltas,I can really shoot this well and have a great track record on critters with it, but The longbow has a really strong pull on me, and I am really tempted to set the recurve aside for a bit, go back to my 64" 65lb DG Albright longbow, woodies and deltas, the recurve, I can just drill with it, the longbow, I have to work a little as far as consistant grip etc, almost seems like the struggle some have leaving a compound for a recurve, a smart man would stay with the recurve and set up that is a proven winner, but I have proven time and again I am not really that smart and follow my feelings alot.. anyone else go through this, or have any thoughts?? I'm lucky. I can shoot both my 42# recurve and my 41# hybrid longbow with the same aluminum arrow with deadly accuracy. A 32", 2215 and the total arrow weight is 614 grains.

Many people will tell you to stick with what works now. On the other hand, i'd say maybe the longbow is more of a challenge to you so your drawn to it. Like in the back of your mind you wanna figure out how to get as good with the longbow as you are with the recurve. I'm like that with arrows. If there is an arrow that flies perfect out of my bow, and one next to it that doesnt, i for some stupid reason wanna figure out how to make it fly good. If it was me, i'm sure i'd be shootin the longbow just to make things difficult. Some of us are never content i suppose.

bigbuckmalik.. I think you have pretty much nailed it, sounds like we have the same mindset, I am always lookin for a challange but not sure that my huntin accuracy is the place to be looking for it, shootin targets or stumpin. sure ... thanks

I'm like you Dave. I have had some perfect set-ups over the years and just decide that I want to change it all. Last year I went as far as switching back to recuves! Imagine that. A longbow guy like me :-)
That's what makes what we do so much fun. You can get the job done with all different kinds of stuff.

Do it all the time, but then again, all of my set-ups work, or I get them to working fairly quickly. I like the feel of different set-ups for different situations. Could use the same bow for turkeys out of a blind here in the Midwest as I do for elk out West, but I don't. I try to match the set-up to what I'm hunting.

Its fun aint it,

I have a problem staying with a working setup on a single bow, i always find myself tinkering, Strings,arrows types, FOC, EFOC ect...ect...

Well Dave you got to many bows you need to at least narrow it down to at least 4 and with your back surgery you might need to drop down to a 44 lb instead of a 64 lb haha. Your buddy Warren

Dave, I feel your pain. I'm the same way. I know what works for me and yet I'll go to a shoot and win and come home and ponder about the 5 or the two or three 8's or even the miss. I know the bad shots were just me and not my setup, but I go looking for an edge. something faster or more stable. I always come back to what I know (that if I do my part)will be a center 10 every time. I love longbows and shoot them ok and have killed some stuff with them and won a few shoots too. But If I had to feed my family day in and out with one bow, I know what I'd grab off the wall. What works for me and you might be totally differant, but we know what works and still we dable. I guess thats the fun of shooting trad. Now that I've been making some bows, the problem is getting bigger. good luck and shoot straight. Don Batten.
