Rob has a sticky over the traditional bow buy/sell forum that has some good info in it.  i ship mine in pvc pipe and "bombproof" them so to speak.  i've gotten them shipped to me in carpet tubes before, but i don't have a carpet place nearby.
And i forgot to add i ship via USPS....

I shipped one in a piece of 3" plastic downspout from Lowes.  I packed some foam around the limbs and handle and cut a piece of .5 inch plywood to make end caps which fit into the plastic and then I screwed them on.  The bow's recipient told me that it the bow arrived without incident - it was very secure.  I shipped it via USPS and the cost wasn't much at all.  If I mailed another one out I'd do the same thing...but I'm out of one-piece bows!

What the guys have said so far and from personal experiences (as in more than one), use the United States Postal Service. Trust me, you don't want to find out why!
