Good start! And I don't see any blood and that's a big plus. Is that novaculite or Burlington?

That is way better than my first attempt! I think I broke 10 for every one that came close to looking like an arrowhead.

dont laugh but we all sit on this stone every day!johnstone, toilet tank porclean.
its man made silica. its cheaper to practice on than other rock because we dont have alot of knappable rock here to practice on.
i ordered obsidian but i wanted to practice first

Good old johnstone! It is great to learn on. I have busted many of those things up. There tough to get thin but work fairly well. Plate glass also works well. Old tv screens, coputer monitors, beer bottle bottoms, wine bottles, broken dishes (just act like you dropped it), I have used alot of different things when rock shortages occur.

Been onthe desert for the last two months andfound old 1/4" plate glass from an old train stop. Picked up a bunch and I have using that to practice on. Having trouble trying to get the centers thin.

I'm do expert by far, but i did find you need to strike at a different angle when working with glass. You really need to abrade the platform before you strike it too. You may already know that though. It took me a while to figure that out. I think glass is a little easier to work with compaired to obsidian. Obsidian is slightly more fragle.
