Maddog Prowler II
« on: August 07, 2009, 03:41:00 PM »
Here are some pictures of the    Maddog Prowler II   I received last month.  The riser is walnut, the limbs are bamboo with sassafras laminations, and the tips are antler.  It is 56# at my draw length of 27".  This bow and me are buddies now.

Sassafras lam and sassafras leaves.

My thanks go out to Mike Mecredy.

Wow I dont think I have ever seen Sassafras lams.  That looks beyond awesome.  I was planning on Tulip wood on my next bow, but Now I dont think so.  That thing is a Winner!

Thank you for the replies.

Dan, tulipwood is a real eye catcher.  Another Trad Gang member had a tulipwood bow at a local shoot and it was "Wow"!

Keith, I am really enjoying this bow.  It is quiet and stable.  I served a strand of tightly wrapped wool around the ends of the string where it meets the limbs and added a small wool silencer about a quarter of the string length from each end.  This bow is only 54". The string I made for it is 52".  Mike describes it as having "pronounced recurved tips".  The brace height is 5 1/2" and I don't notice any stacking.  The weight curve during draw feels really good. I shoot this one better than I do my 45# longbow, a combination of the grip design and the added draw weight giving me a cleaner release.  It fires a 506 grain GT 5575, with 250 up front, nice and flat.  It has taken me three weeks to learn to compensate less for distance.  I am starting to have a strange feeling of calm confidence at full draw.

Here is a photo showing how the lams take on a deep honey color in direct sunlight.

Thanks for the kind words and the promotions Jeff. And for anyone who likes it, I have a bunch of sass left just waiting to be made to laminations.
