How important is FOC %

I was just reading the post on adding weight to carbon arrows.
I have some Gold Tip carbons that use the brass weight system to add weight to the front and rear of the arrow. I have added weight to both the front and back end and the arrows seem to fly great.
I added 70 grains to the front with a 125 grn point. 40 grains to the rear.
28" arrow. with adapters and feathers it is 536 total.
55lbs @ 27 inch Habu VyperKhan is what I am shooting.
Just balanceing them on a finger looks as if the balance point is in the center of the arrow.
Anyway the question is will the arrow that has a poor FOC but flys good still penetrate like it is supposed to? Haven't shot anything but foam but targets with em.

Plenty,
Do a search here for Dr. Ed's studies and read his latest report. It will give you all the proof you need to see that all the FOC weight you can add will only help. I shoot carbons with 285gr and 385gr up front with no issues. It seems the heavier you load them the better they fly. Penetration is second to none with this up front weight.

I am with hunt it on this. With the advent of the carbon arrow and the need to increase the weight of the finished arrow it seems that at this moment in time that loading the front end is the way to go. It eliminates any problems associated with weight tubes and most who have tried them with a heavy front end claim exceptional penetration and no adverse affects on accuracy. That has also been my experience. For hunting arrows it seems like the best way to go.

Heavy FOC is very important in my opnion and based upon my own experience in the field with bows drawing less than 50#, it is the only way to go with carbons. As others have said, refer to Dr. Ed Ashby's work and it will be easy to see the science.

I am not a scientist but given that dart are about 85% foc and they fly well I would think it would be similar with arrows.

I did a search for Dr. Ed Ashby and all I got was a bunch of threads talking about his studies....? Is there a link to his info. on this website?
