Black Widow PTF

[Three Arrows]

Anyone in here own one, shot one, or hunted with one want to share your thoughts?  I am looking to get one to hunt with.  I have shot pretty much all the big names except for Black Widow PTF's.  I tend to shoot recurves more consistently and accurately than longbows.  A good recurve is what I am looking for.  Please give me your input on the PTF recurve.

I have one.  I replaced a SAII takedown with it.  I really like it.  Light and handles well.  No cracks to worry about water getting into.  I use a strap on GN quiver and it works pretty well.  Basic, no frills, bow.  Im very pleased.

I own a 60 inch PSA and a 58 inch PTF. I ordered the PSA first but I honestly couldn't decide between the two models. My hunting partner picked up a used PSA and when I tried it I was really impressed so I ordered one. Great bow and I can say I don't think I'll ever sell it.

About a year after I started shooting the PSA, a fellow Trad Ganger was posting to a friend on this site. He said he had a PTFV he picked up from another friend who was hurt and unable to shoot. He didn't want to sell it but he had already ordered another bow so he had to let it go. It matched the draw weight of my PSA but was 2 inches shorter. I bought it.

That was four years ago and I still am unable to decide between the PSA & PTF. I really take a great deal of time to bare shaft tune my arrow & bow. I use the Gold Tip weight system and my unfletched shafts fly as straight as my fletched arrows. I tried the pretuned PSA bare shaft in the PTF and it flew almost the same. It only took minor adjustment in tail weight to shoot dead straight at 40 yards. I think that's very close performance for a 2 inch shorter bow.

Anyway, the PTF is another keeper. If I had purchased the PTF first, I probably would only own one bow. It's lighter and I never take the PSA apart. The PSA may be a little more foregiving because of the additional weight of about 3/4 lbs. I wouldn't sell either bow but I "think" I prefer the 60 inch length. Still undecided!

Just a side note. My friend was shooting his "used" PSA out of the barn loft to practice shooting out of a treestand.  When he released, he smashed the upper limb tip against the loft framework and cracked the tip overlay. This would have destroyed most bows. He called Black Widow and they suggested he send it in. It was around the first of October and I'm sure Black Widow was working nights and weekends to fill orders for hunting season. They repaired and returned his bow in just over two weeks. They inspected the bow and replaced both upper and lower tip overlays. Repair bill, $25.00 and about the same for S&H. Remember, my friend didn't buy the bow from Black Widow.

They're service and honesty sold me so I ordered my PSA. Great company and great people to deal with.

I have 3 of each and they are all great bows. The PTF and PSA have the same profile and are the same bow except for the physical weight and takedown system.

I own and have hunted with PSA's and TF's both are great shooters, however I do seem to prefer the TF. pic of a deer from last year. Started making my own recurves last month so the BW's will have to stay home this year...

If I had to choose just one bow for the rest of my hunts......56" PTF hands down.

I agree with Morning Star.  My 58" PTFX is the one bow on the rack that has been my first choice for the last 2 years - and will be this fall also.   My Widow PSA and my Morrison are going to Australia in a couple of weeks with me - I need take downs.   But if I can use a one piece, it will be my PTFX - best bow I have ever shot.

I own a PSA and four PTFs. I haven't hunted with my PSA in years, I prefer the PTFs. Shooting characteristics are very similar, but I like the looks of the PTF much better. The PSA is slightly heavier in the hand, but to me the PTF is every bit as stable a shooter. I've had my PTF all over north America with no problems in traveling. It's been to the Northwest Territories twice, Alberta twice, and at least 15 trips out west. Great bow!

The lighter mass weight is why I like the PTF a tad more than PSA's.  I always thought I needed that mass weight until I picked up my PTF.  I shoot it as well or better than my PSA's.  Just an all around great bow.

I had a TFV that I sold a few years back that I really regretted selling, that bow somehow made it into the hands of Warren Womack. The "Yellow Dog" Widow that he's so fond of. Picked up a PTFV in the same weight after that and sold it soon after, the old TF's seemed to be so much more smoother. JMHO

I ordered a PTF 62 inch 54lbs with the curly bubinga today.  I cannot wait to see what this looks like and shoots like.  30 inch draw length dictates a 62 inch recurve for me.

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with the bow and their great service. It will be one nice looking and great shooting outfit with the curly bubinga. The hardest part now is the waiting.
