AD Trad Lites and shorter draws....

Just finished testing out my AD Trad Lites and I was happy with my results. This is a very tunable arrow.

Since I draw 27", I wanted to see how short I could get them where I could still shoot them accurately from my 57 and 58# Recurves and my 53# Longbow. I started out with the arrow at 30", regular inserts and FOC at 165 grains. Arrow flew perfectly out to 50 yds. I like shooting distance so I can watch the flight and pick up any sign of the arrow being weak or stiff.

Since I don't like too much arrow overhang because I use the split vision aiming method, I cut it down to 29", same setup. Flew good. Now the test. I hot melted in a 100 gr brass insert after cutting the arrow 28.5". Installed a 30 gr XL broadhead adapter and 125 gr Zwickey Eskimo.

This is my desired arrow length. The arrow flight was perfect again out to 50 yds. I threw on a 160 gr Snuffer, same results. Basically, with the 255 grains up front, I don't have to alter my arrow length as my swagged aluminum are the same. You fellas that have 26-27" draw length, you can cut these shafts to 1.5" longer for clearance, get your FOC up to 225 or 250 and should have a fine shooting arrow.

My next step now is to crown dip (I installed nock adapters) with white and hot pink, fletch them up with hot pink and chartruese and give them a go this fall. Keep the Faith......Joe

joe, Terry Green sent me one to try two years ago.  I'm still trying it.  That thing is 29", with a standard aluminum insert and 125 grain point, and flies perfecly from my 42, 45 and 57 pound bows.  Go figure.  I think those fellers may have something going.

I cut mine to 27" and shoot 200 to 300 up front depending on the bow (45lbs to 57lbs) with no issues.

I tell my customers this is a good arrow that can tuned easily...and Chris (above) is my latest! LOL.

Also, my finished arrow weight is 546 grains with the 125 grain head, 30 grain BHA and 100 grain brass insert. My next testing is to shoot these into a large sand pile from 20 yds and compare the penetration with my 535 grain aluminum.

Some great information thanks! Some experimentation is in order, do you see any difference in arrow flight when you use the longbow vs the reurve? Let me know!   Jan

Jan...no difference in flight as my Kempf longbow is cut to center. As far as any speed differences between the Carbon and 2117's, I really can't tell.
I don't have my Chronograph anymore and I believe the last time Curt brought over his small chrony for some testing. Would be interesting....

That's about the same info that  tell my customers.  There is no need to have all the extra arrow out front. I have cut a lot of them at 28".  No one has ever claimed about getting poor flight.

just posted this as a query yesterday ..... think i'll order some and see how they go out of my new Belcher Union Jack.
i'm really looking for carbons that i can cut that bit shorter, not just for my "sight" picture but because i use a back quiver so much. i'm very interested in the results people get when using these and 'Hill" style / less than centre cut bows .

Hey Joe, I was messing with my AD's this past weekend and I forgot how much I liked em(had em in the bucket for about 5-6yrs.) I could shoot with anything from 125gn to 250gn up front. all out of a 59#@30" LONGWALKER that is cut 1/8"from center. No difference from field points to BIG broadheads. Good arrows
