My Goat Tuff's dead ... need glue advice.
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:55:00 PM »
Okay. I pulled out my bottle of Goat Tuff to fletch a couple of arrows and it's just a ball of gum in the bottle (of course its been a couple of years since I saw it last).

Anyhow, instead of spending $$ on "fletching" glue and paying shipping etc...  I'm wondering if something like super glue gel or Duco (something I can pick-up at walmart or the craft store) will work just as well?

I'm gluing on to wraps if that makes a difference.  Thx for the assist.

LocTite Super Glue  or Gorrilla SuperGlue  I have used both and have had nothing but great results!

Personally I would stay with the Goat Tuff.  I use it for everything and wont use anything else.  I have never had a point or insert come out while using it.

I second the Gorilla toughened or rubberized ca glue. I use an accelerator which means I can fletch an arrow in under a minute and if you don't mind waiting most hobby stores sell Ambroid which I prefer to Duco

Big fan of CA / super glue. You can find it at any hobby store. I buy it here for $4.99 for 2 ounces. The "gel" type or the 15-20 sec dry time types work best for fletching.

Mancole5, Which type of Gorilla SuperGlue do you get? I see all types at HD and Lowes.

Gorilla glue for inserts can't be beat IMHO, Duco works good except for over wraps or Bohning products, for that I use flech-tite platinum.

Another Loc-tite fan here for fletching on wraps.

Super glue would be good. Dont use the Docu on wraps.

This is the stuff to use:

It's cheap, you can get it at Walmart, and it holds like crazy.  Don't use it on points or inserts though.  It dries brittle and will break on impact.  But for fletching, it's as good as anything out there.
