need some help on my set up?
« on: September 08, 2009, 10:25:00 PM »
how much arrow length increases or decreases spine +/- 5 lbs when removed.. 1/2", 1" etc.
Example if I have 29.5" 50 Lbs spined aluminum arrow and remove 1/2" how much would that stiffen the spine if any?
And also If I add point weight to the same arrow 29.5 how much point weight does it take to affect the spine weight +/- 5 lbs?
I am trying to get set up for turkey and deer with a typical 3 blade 125 grain broadhead for turkey and a single bevel head for deer but I can't find any single bevel heads in this weight, all the single bevels that I find are heavier than 125 grain.
What to do? What to do?
My bow is tuned about as good as I can get it and shooting great with 29.5" 2016 legacy's, 125 grain heads, 5" 3 feather. Bare shafted... great groups. Broadhead tuned... great groups.
I want to shoot a single bevel for big game but don't really need a heavier head for this set up and was wondering if I go a little heavier single bevel and shorten my arrows .5" can I equal it out in the spine of my arrows so they fly as close to same as possible.  Or just shoot the same heads for both quarry?
Thanks Kris

If it makes any difference I'm shooting a bear super mag 48" recurve.

Have you maybe considered a 100 grain Grizzly and a 30 grain aluminum adapter?

Killdeer,
Are you talking about a glue on with the adapter? Would the extra 5 grains affect my spine or anything?

NO!  5 grains is not going to make any difference.  A dollar bill weighs 16 grains.  I'd not worry about the single bevel two blades and shoot the 125g 3blades I had tuned perfectly.

On some 2016's and 2018's I was tuning,an inch equalled roughly 25 to 30 grs of point weight. If yours act the same,1/2" might equal about 15 grains. You can also build out your side plate a little to make your arrows act stiffer,
