Arrow selection?
« on: September 16, 2009, 11:15:00 AM »
Hi gang i`m shooting an old wing archery red wing hunter. It`s 58" and 47#.I have been shooting 1916 aluminum arrows 30" with 125 grain tips.I have tried several diffrent shafts such as 2016 and 2117 i have also tried diffrent lenghts from 30" to 28.5".My question are what is the best arrow for my set up?What is the carbon equal? Does a half or full inch make that big of a diffrence?I know it effects spine strength.P.s i draw 28".Thanks for the help!!

Coincidence, I was just about to call Bob Lee archery to ask what their recommended brace height is for that very same bow. I am shooting it @ 7.75" with 2016's cut 28.5" with 175 grains up front(Magnus and Deltas and they fly very well

You didn't say what your draw length is, but I would think a 1916 or 2016 would be the alum shaft of choice, depending on arrow length and point weight.  I don't think you could get enuf of either to make a 2117 work well.  I'm no help with carbons.
Good judgement comes from experience.  Experience comes from bad judgement.

Only you can decide this.  There is no one arrow that will shoot great for everyone.

If you want to try carbons, take alook at Gold Tip 35/55, CX 150 or Arrow Dynamic Tradlites.

Arrow length does make a difference with wood and aluminum, especially with carbons.
