New Mojostik with Pics
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:04:00 PM »
Well, I picked up a used Mojo and liked it so well, that I got to wanting one with a little more poundage.  I e-mailed JD to see if he had one in stock and he didn't.  I thought, there goes that, but JD said he had a hole in his schedule and could have a custom bow in about 2 weeks.  I told him the color scheme I was looking for and he said he had some real dark Myrtle that he thought would look good.  I didn't have any idea on the riser wood and he sent me a pic of Mora that looked neat, so I pulled the trigger on it.  I got it Monday, which was two weeks exactly.  JD out did himself on this thing and it fits the bill exactly.  Smooth, fast, quiet and a dang nice looker.  Enjoy the pics.

Forgot the specs, 56" 44@28.  I got the locator grip since I normally shoot longbows and it fits like a dream.  If you are an old longbow nut but find yourself needing to drop poundage and don't want to lose performance or if you have those situations where a shorter, more compact bow would come in handy, then you need to check these bows out.

Great looking wood combo. J.D. is awesome no doubt. Never heard of Mora wood but wow I like it.

Very nice looking bow...that Myrtle came out of this piece of wood:

JD couldn't wait to get piece of lumber in his shop to cut it all up!  He was like a kid on Christmas morning.  He nipped a sliver of the end to find the grain and then went to town.  We cut close to a dozen veneers that night.  Most myrtle is lighter but that is a piece of Tiger Myrtle.

He said it was dark and that is what I was looking for.  He told me where the Mora was from, some South American place, can't remember for sure but it has some cool grain and color variation to it.  Both sides and above and below the grip are all different.  He said it was a very tough wood and it seems to have a good heft to it.  The bow over all with the Great Northern and arrows is just the right weight to still be light enough to carry but heavy enough to stabilize the shot.

Nice bow Crash!  That riser is real unique for sure.  I bet these pic's don't do justice to those limbs.  JD's bows are very nice.  You have to hold one to really see the quality put into them.  I just got back from shooting bows.  I got a chance to shoot a new Kijika stick.  It was one of about 8 different bows from that many sources.  The Kijika was far and away the best quality construction and finish.

Crash, we have something in common! The fine people from the USPS made a delivery to my place today thanks to "Cecil", a fellow Tradganger. 60" Mojo Stik, 54@30, Bocote and Ebony riser with Knotty Osage limbs. Like yours it's another work of art from JD. Played with it out back tonite a little bit and was shooting 2" groups at 20. And to top it off it's a Whisperstik that's whisper quiet. The grip is a little "different" than what I'm used to but I think I can work with it. Very happy with it. Congrat's on yours and I couldn't be more pleased with mine.

Thanks guys.  That is a looker Yellow Dog.  Fine bows at a great price and they are quiet.  I think that is one of the things that blows me away, usually, when the performance is this high, you expect more shot noise.

I hope it is Marlon.  The more I shoot it the better I like it.  Trying to fine tune the arrow so I will be ready for our Oct 1 opening.

Wonder where JD is?  I guess he is too modest to respond.
