Sweet and Sour A love story
« on: September 19, 2009, 04:48:00 PM »
The Sweet
I recently bought one of the Black Swan belly mounted limb bows that was listed here and I have been very happy with the quick setup and overall performance of this fine bow.

I have enjoyed it so much that I have planned to use it this year instead of my Morrison and I have actually felt ashamed of myself, almost like I was letting down an old friend.  She was not my 1st Morrison but one I bought used with a grip that suited me better. I have bought and sold many bows since that one including 3 more Morrisons but it has always been my go to bow.

The Sour
Well, fate stepped in and made up my mind for me.  I went with a couple guys on a quick bowfishing trip one night and sometime on the ride back, she went overboard.  My beloved Morrison is gone.  We turned back after not finding her at the dock and even went back in the daylight.  No bow.

I think that she felt gilted by having another girl in the house and seeing me spend time with the curvasious swan and hearing talk about me not taking her to the opening dance was all she could take.  If she only new that I would give that swan to have her back...... I would never let her know about the next one I bought.

I need to call Bob and see if he can still get that funky orange pakawood.  But I guess it wouldn't be the same.

very sad but it's like getting a new lab. The new puppy eventually takes away the pain and you're left with good memories.

give yourself a some time to grieve and then break a "new puppy".

Now that I think about it, I have actually bought 3 bows from Mr. Bob.  My first Morrison TD Recurve, an instock Cheyenne, and a phenalic shawnee riser with carbon faom 58" dakota limbs.  This one was used but 2nd in line and I have had 2 more shawnees 2nd hand.  I also just ordered some broadheads from him and have talked to him twice resently, but I could not bring myself to tell him.  After hunting season I may get him to make me a real special mini 14 riser.

Bob is a great guy whom it seems has been along on my traditional journey from the start and has been there the whole way.  I think I first bought from him arround 2000.  He talked me into his 56" recurve and convinced me that I didn't have to have a 65lb bow to kill a deer.  He also gave me the phone # to a gentleman that was a good friend and customer as a reference.  You know him as TOO Short, Mr Paul Bruner.  I didn't know who he was right then but about a month later I saw him on a DVD that I had bought.  Pretty cool.

Yep he's a grea guy and even when I am talking with other bowyers about purchasing one of their bows and they ask,"What are you shooting now"  they normally say "Oh yeah, I know Bob he is a great guy and makes a fine bow".

She joined the countless fishing rods and reels that jump overboard.  Probably other jilted toys.

Brant,

I still have that phenolic Shawnee riser that I bought from you, and I love it. I definitely think you ought to get a Mini-14 riser and put some foam/carbon limbs on it -- either a pair of Bob's or a pair of the new Black Swans, or maybe get both pairs. I don't have a Black Swan yet, but I am thinking about buying a set of the Black Swan foam/carbon ILF limbs for my Mini-14 riser. I already have a set of Bob's foam/carbon limbs on it. I also have half a dozen other Morrison bows and some extra limbs from Bob for those bows. There are other makes of bows I own that I may like as much as my Morrisons, but none that I like more. It's like having children. You love them for different reasons but could not pick a favorite. Sorry about you losing that Morrison over the side of the boat. I have a few rods and reels sitting on the bottom of lakes, but so far no bows.
