Ooooooo me, me, me - No,no - don't send the money to me -  I mean I want to answer the question. You don't have to send it in, although you can do that (and it would go most likely to our erstwhile St Judes money man and knife maker extrodinaire, Doug Campbell, in that case). You have a number of choices: One, you can bid on items put up for auction by other members, and then if you are a winner you would also send the money to Doug. Two, you can use the money you save to buy something to donate to be in the auction, which you would then send to the winning bidder on that item - and they would send the money to self-same Doug. Or, if niether of those appeal to you (or you bid but don't win), you can, as stated at the beginning, make a money donation - and send it to - uh - oh yeah, Doug. When all is done (the Annual auction lasts 5 days normally) then Our Man Doug sends all the loot from the HUGE auction to the Great St. Judes Childrens Hospital as one lump sum donation from all the members of Tradgang.com It will be our Third Annual Auction and this year we raised around 45,000 big ones as I recall - You see why EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS! Bless you all, bless us all.

Oh - and besides being good for the kids, and the hospital, and trad bow folks image, it is also  FUN! (and will make you feel better all over more than anywhwere else    :p   )

Gotcha!, thanks for the info. I guess that was kind of a stupid question now that i think about it. I think I have it all figured out now, thanks for setting me straight:)

Good explanation there MiniGRUNT Bernie!

Yup..just save up yer shelkles, gold dabloons, nickles, dimes, pennies for next year's auction.

Good point on using it to buy/make/donate something instead of just bidding. Course, you would think of that given all the nice modest priced items you bought/made/donated last year, Bernie! Two of them goodies grace my world as we speak... I'm working up the nerve to wear your bolo to work one day at the sporting goods store...but it gotta chill up some to wear anything around my neck!   "[tunglaff]"

Not a stupid question at all, RD, and i was really glad you asked it. It gave a good chance to put the "Master Plan" right up there for all to see at a time when it isn't in the limelight - which always helps the effort. Like Doc pointed out any and all gifts work to help fill the "basket" (there's been a couple of those too, come to think of it, and some underwear - both new and used, prepared/canned goodies, handcrafted items, costum jewelry, videos, DVDs, great and not so great archery items, fantastic hunts, knives to die for, a Robin Hood hat, strange collectibles) - You name it, and this next year I already have a collectible Comic Book issue of Green Arrow that I will be putting up - see it in the pic of my work bench in the "Getting Ready" thread currently on Pow Wow Forum (among other things    ;)   ).  Plan ahead, y'all!

Hey Bern, the princess already has dibs on the spare change (she rolls it and donates 10% to the homeless shelter, then we dump the rest into her bank account), but I got another plan...I am just gonna buy a bunch of stuff at next years auction. That ok?      :wavey:

cheers!

Yep, that'll work too, Calvin. AND good on your "Princess" - give 'er a hug from me. Thankfully we have a lot of great folks, like yourself, that do always do the most they can. This Mason Jar thing is for the folks (like me) that so often find it upon them all the sudden and wishing they had the where-with-all to do a little more, or even just something/anything. I/We want everyone to know that there are many ways to help and that what they think might not be worth doing, "'cause it's just a drop in the bucket" counts and will be greatly appreciated.

Even just helping to keep the auction threads up (like you just did, you sneakey Flying Pig Super Hero, you) is counted a big help too. Bless you, brother.

This "Day After Thanksgiving Morning" I dropped anoyher 93 cents in my funky looking Mason Jar. I hope you great folks are remembering yours too (though I have been a little remiss of late.     :(    )

In the last month or so I have seen on some stations (notably CMT) a half hour Paid TV promo from Marlo Thomas of St. Judes. It showcases some of the current children being treated and their great attitudes -  so well done!!!  Marlo's Dad, Danny must be so proud of how she has carried on the great tradition he started at St. Judes. Also now that the hollidays are upon us the Today show has been chatting with Marlo and the Kids, off and on.  I hope you folks are also seeing some of this coverage and taking it to heart for when it becomes our annual time to do our little bit. Can you imagine? At St. Judes, - "No child has  ever  been turned away for treatment -  ever  - for lack of ability to pay. St.Judes will  never  stop seeking a cure for any child's illness -  never ." What a fantastic cause our little (not so little) "Gang" has taken as it's annual auction cause. Will you be ready for this mid-summer's auction to do whatever little bit of help you can? No amount of "green" or change is too small. No act, or deed, or item of help is too insignificant. There will be many ways you can help. Please plan ahead, if you can, and try to see, and really listen, to Marlo and the Kids if you can. When I saw the half hour promo I couldn't help but think how neat it would be if tradgang had a copy of that video, and folks here could click on clips of it when it got close to our auction time. I don't know if that is even possible or feasible. Remember, please, that we all are needed.
Bless you all, bless us all.

Tique, et al, I only wound up with $29.00 (but that is 29.00 I - and the kids - wouldn't have had without the "mason jar"), and then I added $6.00 to it and made a late bid on some custom arrow wraps I wanted (and got) from Onestringer . Plus I got a great new Saftey Harness (full body), in Camo, (to replace my old silver one), from Whip, for an extra $20.00 bid. not bad, Not bad at all. I feel good about it, and didn't hurt myself too bad at that. I sent the $55.00 Money Order off to Doug this AM, without bothering to cash the change in. Now, IF (big if) things go half way decent in the next few weeks - I may just leave the $29.00 in change in that funny looking Mason Jar of mine, and see how much it will grow from there - for next year's St. Jude Auction. (Please pray I can keep my fingers out of the jar - except for putting more in - LOL.)

Mine ended up in a hat and the overflow in a small box.  I'm not sending it to Doug because it weighs about 5 or 6 pounds!

To be honest I don't know how much is in there, but I'm sure my "winnings" amount to more than I've saved.  I'll be sending Doug a check for one of Rose's beautiful afghans (tell her thanks Bernie!), and an inspirational chip carving from TexMex.  I lost a bid on another item that Bernie donated, but I'm including that amount with my payment as "a little sumthin extra".

I was a bit over budget but, like Bernie, if I can stay out of "the mason jar" it'll be there for next year (with more I hope)!

I was so broke the last 12+ months, I ATE the mason jar..just for the smell of them canned peaches what were in it before pennies...

Now that the Good Lord saw fit to have me working a few months, I did by some miracle get two bids to "stick" and got a check together to send to ole cowpoke Doug...

Doug..the check's ok...uhmmm... ya can ride green broke colts, can'tya?  :)

Well I didn't have a Mason jar handy, so I used one of the big, 1 gal. dill pickle jars. (We like dill pickles!) I managed $70.68 of pocket change over the year and just added that total to the other items I won. Thunder's Great Fishing Trip and Bob T's copy of "A Thousand Campfires" by Massey. Now I have to roll all that change and take it to the bank.

A little tip to make the counting easier.....just slip a piece of paper in the jar w/the money and everytime you add some change, make a running total. It'll only work if you keep your grubby fingers out of the jar when the pizza guy shows up!

I've "primed the pump" for next year's contribution with 3, $1 bills. Hopefully we can blow past this year's amazing total like we left the 2006 total in the dust this year.

Good work folks!

I managed to save up 59.88 in my jar(even though I have 4 little quarter theives). It was a great way to have a little more to spend on the auction. Without my jar, I would not have been able to play as much. Guess it is time to start saving for next year, as long as I can find better hiding spot....Terry
