OH Bears
« on: October 03, 2009, 06:15:00 PM »
Has anyone seen any Bears in Ohio? The Captain I relieve saw a full grown Black Bear swim the Ohio River Wednesday at Proctor Landing. He had to back up to keep from running the bear over. The bear went into the woods just above Ormet. The spot I am talking about is approximatley 30 river miles south of Wheeling, WV. Three other crew members saw the bear through good optics at less than 800 feet.

I havent personally. My wife claims to have seen one near where her parents live several years ago, but i cant help but think she is mistaken. They live in Fairfield County, jsut south of Columbus. Her mom says she saw it too, but im not buyin it.

Don't be so sure, just a couple months ago a black bear was photographed walking down court street in Chillicothe.

Just had one here in Portage County over the summer. Pics of that bear in the paper ever day until they moved him against his will with a tranquilizer dart.
