Indoor range ?

Has anyone made an indoor shooting range in your home? What are you using for a back stop? Post a pic of it if you can. I need ideas.

I want to make one. It will be about 15 yards. I will be shooting from my kitchen to my living room. I want to make some kind of back stop that I can move easy. Thanks.

I'm fortunate enough to have an 18' hall that I can shoot down.  I have two pieces of 3/4" plywood that are each 2'X3' that I stand next to each other against the wall.  Then in front of that I put my target on top of an old cat house (the kind that's covered with carpet) which raises the target about a foot off the floor.  My wife is pretty understanding, and I'm sure to let her know when I'm "shootin' down the hall" so she doesn't step out unexpectedly and get nailed.  Usually I hit the target and it's pretty quiet.  Once in a while I'll miss and it's quite a "thunk" when the arrow hits the plywood.  So far I haven't missed the plywood and shot through the wall (knock on plywood).  Fortunately, the room behind the target is my utility room where I keep my various hobby equipment, so nobody would usually be in there other than me.

First don't miss,I use picture frame boxes (get them at any moving company) and fill them with old sheets shirts ect. I have used bundled newspaper and crib mattresses with cardboard in between them.

Hang a piece of old carpet for a backstop. Just hang it like a towel on a rack so you get double thickness. Takes the energy right out of an arrow.

Mine is exactly 15 yards. Suggest you not have antiques or valuables anywhere near your target. E-mail for more.

I set mine up in the basement, a concrete wall is my backstop. Makes me concentrate and pick a spot, otherwise CRACK!

Here is my indoor target butt it is 6’ x 4’ x 16” the material is Celotex.


Do a search for homemade targets or indoor ranges and I’m sure you will see plenty of other examples.

If you want to shoot from your LR into your kitchen..... a refrigerator will stop an arrow.

I saw a pic on here once where a guy was standing on his toilet shooting down his stair well. Pretending he was in a tree stand. Maybe that individual will grace us with his pic again.

Gatekeeper-how many pieces of celotex you have in that? How about a material list and building instructions.

I have a 17 yard shot in my basement. I use a 4 by 4 sheet of plywood behind a target bag. I put something behind the plywood to keep it away from the wall.
