Hunting buddies and Hunting Mentors

As you all know Leatherneck has struck early once again and it started me to think how lucky I am to have friends that are great hunters that i can pick there brains. Leatherneck, Longbowben and Missing Impossible are my hunting gang at "Camp Bastard" and the hunting knowledge I have learned is vast. I am not new to hunting but new to chasing big deer and believe it or not there is a difference. I have lived in Ohio for 10 years and have taken some good deer over the years but they are not even close to the number of big deer Leatherneck and Longbowben has taken. I was just telling Longbowben he needed some frost in his life meaning he should have to hunt until at least the first frost. These guys year after year harvest big bucks and try to help me as much as they can. My point is you trad guys that are out there let this motivate you to try harder than you ever have and if you are lucky enough as I am to have buddies that always seem to kill big bucks feel good about it and learn from it. Leatherneck took a great deer on the 6 day of the season and the only thing that bothered me was i could not be there that day but i did get to be there when Longbowben killed his Giant last year, and buy the way it was the second day of the season do you see what i was talking about. Hunter that kill big bucks year after year are a breed alone.Congrat to Leatherneck and a great buck and thanks to Leatherneck and Longbowben for being hunting buddies i can count on and look up to for any hunting advice that i need.    Good luck to everyone and be safe

WOW! Never been put on a pedastool like that before. Not sure how to respond. Not sure I deserve all those compliments. Thank you. I guess what I would tell anyone in reference to the above post is it's not just the big deer that gets me going, it's the quest. Sometimes a smaller buck will satisfy me moreso than a bigger one because of the hunt itself. Hunt for yourself, not anyone else.Shoot what you want regardless of the size, and learn from even the novice hunter. They too will have knowledge that you can learn from. When we all get old and look on the walls, it's not just going to be the animal we will remember, it will be the hunt you will never forget. Thanks again Rob.

Im not sure what to say but thanks.I know im not always politically correct   :dont think:  And big deer are definitely diffrent.Im always learning from big deer.Im going to get leatherneck and write an article about early season hunting i think most people wait for the rut and that's a huge mistake.I really like to thank you for the kind words and good luck its your turn.And you better hurry.  :big smyl:
