This year I am hunting property that has lots of groundhogs for the firsts time.I have killed a few but never but one near each den.Does just one hog live in a den?I thought they might be several liveing together but it don't seem to be the case so far.You guys that know about them clue me in a little about them.So far I just shoot the ones that come by my stands but might like to try hunting for just hogs one day. :D

One per den except female with litter in the spring. They are good to eat and the leather is incredibly tough - best for lacing.

One technique I use on my place for the ones that live out in the open is to walk up on them slowly from the downhill side. When they run for the den quietly sneak around and position yourself five yards on the uphill side of the den or the side opposite of the dirt mound. Most dens go in at an angle. Wait quietly and pretty soon the hog will get curious and pop his head out looking downhill. If you wait him out he will fully expose himself or you can try for the head shot.
Disclaimer: I shoot at lots of them but hit very few.

Want to see a completely shocked, confused, bewildered look on a friends face?
Invite a bunch of people of on February second for a dinner party and serve roasted groundhog, like a Thanksgiving dinner; and then yell happily, "Happy Groundhog's Day!" and politely ask,"Who wants a leg?"
You'll have to leave the room to laugh when you see the looks on everyone's face. It is especially funny if you have friends attend that are nonhunters or somewhat leaning toward being antihunting.
