Shhhhhhh! Quiet!

Okay, guys I'm new to the trad scene.  I have a Bear Grizzly that is, "TWANG", loud!  What is the best way to keep it quiet?  

I would prefer some type of fur silencers over Limbsaver string leaches I think...just for keeping it traditional.  What's the best way to quiet one of these recurves down?

Depending on how your arrow flight is now you might try increasing the brace height a bit.  I like the beaver fur string balls on my bows.

I have had good luck with brush buttons and wool puffs.....and a B-50 string. My old grizz is silent.

 I'm a big fan of  Bow hush myself.  They work awsome.

Play with the BH 1st then put on the string silencers.

Rubber cat whiskers work better than anything - I knew it but the article in bowhunter magazine proved it 2 issues ago.

They are at least 32 years traditional because I used them on by Browning recurve in 1977

I asume that one would adjust the brace height by spining the string tighter or looser to do this???  If so which way do I need to go?  Once again, I'm a newbie.  Sorry.

Check this out.  It has a brace hieght sectin.  Yes just spin the string for tighter or looser, higher or lower BH.

Move BH until you start to notice it quiet down and less hand shock.

You can twist the string more to shorten the string and increase the brace height, or you can do the opposite to lower the brace height.  Most recurves shoot best somewhere between 7.25" and 8.25" braceheight.  The string silencers will also help to get rid of the high pitch TWANG.

Lots of things,  read above.  all will help a little, some a lot.  Cumulatively I bet you can quiet that bow a bunch.

Sting silencers, including Bow Hush type.
Check nock height
use a heavy arrow   10 g/lb or even a bit more
check brace heigth,  it matters, even 1/8"
different string material
Make sure any things, like bow quivers are tight

If its a newer Grizzly, the factory strings are absolutely horrible.  Ditch it entirely and replace with a quality flemish string then follow the excellent advice given above.  You won't think it's the same bow.

One thing also that some miss is that the tighter your nock fits on the string, the louder the shot will be. Many carbon nocks and some of the others for wood or aluminum are way too tight.

Also, while a last ditch effort, heavier arrows coupled with proper fitting nocks makes a world of difference too.

Start with the brace height and as mentioned above 10grains per every pound of draw weight works really well on the Bear bows.

Wool yarn!! I got the idea from here and it works like a charm! I bought a bundle for 5 bucks, hard tell'n how many silencers I can get out of it! play with your brace height that helps to!! Jason

Nocks to tight on the string can cause considerable noise also.
