I have 2 questions.
1) shooting off the shelf using 4 fletch, how do you orient the feaathers?
2) where can I buy 4" low profile feathers, say .5" X 4"?

That's the beauty of it Woodie. You don't have to worry about orientation of the feathers! Nock them and shoot them! I have Raven Arrows chop and grind my turkey feathers to a low profile. They do a great job.

DoubleJ, I just place the shaft in my bitz jig like I would for 3 fletch and start fletching. I fletch 4-90deg.
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

I started shooting 4x4" instead of 3x5" when I went to a selfbow.  The brace height on the selfbow is so low that with 5" fletching, the feathers rest on the handle of the bow and, naturally, contact it before leaving the string.  I tried the 4" feathers and it worked much better, and by using 4 of them it keeps about the same ammount (slightly more, actually) of material on the arrow for stabilization.  I am considering keeping the 4 feathers, but using a hight profile to gain more controll.  They work plenty well as is though.  But, I imagine that a 3x4" with a high profile would be fine also.  Something fun to try!!!
