Muzzy 4 Blade Fixed?
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:13:00 PM »
Ive been tossing around the idea of using these broadheads for deer and turkey hunting. They shoot great off my bows but ive never heard of anyone taking game with them off of recurves of longbows. Can I expect alot of penetration or pass throughs? Reason I ask is that so many folks say COC is the only way to go for best results. My bows are 55lb @28 shooting 2016s cut at 30.4" I was going to use Snuffers just never got around to ordering them. Im sure theyll do fine I just need some encouragement

I've used thunderheads and the muzzy's.  They penetrate just fine.  The advantage you have is razor sharp replacement blades right out of the package.  Vs risking shooting a COC head that wasn't sharpened well.  I've never seen a problem from them.

If you shoot them you will have to change your handle name.

They work fine and have been using them for many years, no problem, just use your stone to touch up the trocar tip and helps even more.  Good luck!

Those heads were designed by John Mussachia, Sr. who actually used them from his recurves....that is what he designed them for. Someday when I loose my sharpening touch that is what I will be using, except probably the three blade configuration.

I got a dz. and a half of them from Steve Hartley 2 years ago and gave them to my son. He has taken 5 deer with them I think. All have been pass-throughts. They are 125 gr. 4 blade. Hap

I just picked up a couple of the glue on 4 blade.  Truth be told I have been looking for them for years.  Found'em and am going to use them this year.  Tried some glue one single bevel just recently Concorde's I think they are called and just not what I was looking for.  Muzzy's will work, one of the tests Mussachia did was shooting them through a 55gal drum with no damage to the head.  I saw him do this back in the 80's at one of his first stump shoots.  That was a great shoot too!  keepem sharp

The muzzy's "trocar" tip can be sharpened just like snuffers/WWs.  Soo...in a sense you get some of the COC benefit.

I've gotten the tips to shave. (...after much trying.)

Thanks guy that builds my confidence. I know they produced good blood trails in the past when I shot modern bows. Hopefully ill find out how they work this Saturday. If I like how the perform this year I may go with the 125s just for bigger holes.

My brother has killed 2 deer with 125 three blades this year out of a fox breed about 50 lbs @ his draw. buried one in the bone so deep we couldn't remove it with pliers and the other was a complete pass through. and he is using gt 5575s with no added weight.
