Beman ICS or MFX?

Lookin' to take the carbon plunge... shooting 57 - 63lb longbows & leaning towards the Beman 400 series ICS or MFX shafts. Anyone have experience with both & have any opinions on differences - pluses & minuses for each? I'm leaning towards the ICS Hunters or Bowhunters as I don't know how much advantage I'd see from a skinnier shaft @ 25yds or less... Seems to me the thicker shaft would require less work (adaptors, etc) to match the standard broadheads & field pts. I'm used to. Lastly, maybe it's my cheap side, but I'm not sure if I need to spend almost a hundred bucks a dozen on arrows to meet my shooting potential. Thoughts are appreciated!!

I shoot both, but only hunt with the MFX shafts.  They seem to be easier to tune for me with heavy adapters than the ICS's.  I still buy ICS's for 3D shoots and small game shooting, though.  I loved the Venture shafts, but I dont think they're around anymore.

I love the MFX shafts. I believe they weight more per inch than the ICS shafts which helps get your weight up. I don't use any adapters for BHs and just use the "skinny" FP's. It depends on your shooting style and bow but I prefer the smaller shafts as they sit better on my shelf. I have 2 arrows set up for my super shrew. The bow is 49# @28" and I'm pulling just over that. I've been shooting the 500's cut to 30" with a 125 grain point, which gives me about 430grains, my new arrows are 400's cut to 30" with 100grain brass insert and 125 grain heads which gives me about 555grains. Both tune great for my bow.

either arrow you choose will kill just fine, just make sure it tunes great

I'm with VG. I shoot both, but I prefer the MFX by a long way. They're sooooo much easier to tune. Bear in mind that the skinnier shaft brings your bow closer to centre-shot.
I would thing the 400s would be perfect for you with about 200g up front, at full length (maybe just a tad shorter)

I've shot both, and I prefer the ICS's.  Once I broke a few MFX's, I opted for the cheaper ones.

The bowhunters fly good for me, and with 100 grain inserts and 200 grain heads, you can get the weight up pretty good.

Here is a thought for you - $100/12= a good reason to shoot ICS shafts.  I doubt that I'd shoot much better at the ranges that I shoot at with a more expensive carbon shaft.  From 0-30 yards they suit me fine.

The Nocking Point sells the ICS Hunter shafts for around $55 a dozen. They shoot great. I have tried both mfx and ics shafts. Ics is the way to go imo.

I shoot them both ICS an MFX,and they are great arrows.I have no preference as to which ones I like better but do have more MFX.

I shoot both ICS and MFX in the 400.Both great shafts but agree  with v,g and tatoo.Only think I like about ICS they are genrally cheaper.Last year I bought 2 dz ICS for $25 dz. MXF I buy for around 75 dz but tune better.

I know I love my MFX Classics and I believe they'll be the only arrows I'll ever buy again. Matter of fact, I hope to be buying 6 more shafts/arrows very soon.    :rolleyes:

I've got both and shot both - I agree that the MFX's are a lot easier to tune, and they fly just great with broadheads on them.  I got some ICS Bowhunters when I ran out of GT5575's at a 3D shoot, and was so impressed with them I bought a dozen.  

I've broken a few ICS's, but the MFX's are still going strong.  For the cost of the Bowhunters, I don't feel so bad when they bounce around the forest...

I've shot about all the carbons there were until about 5 years ago when the Axis came on the market. The skinnier shaft makes for a better hunting arrow and the MFX are the shafts of choice for me. I find them easy to tune, and if you foot them with an aluminum sleeve they are pretty much as bulletproof as a carbon arrow can be. The issue of inserts, point choices, etc. is basically moot because all the components are as available for the MFX as the ICS (they use the same components as the Axis and Full Metal Jacket shafts). The ICS shafts I have just do not seem to shoot as well as the MFX shafts but that is very subjective.

Bill what aluminum shaft do you use for the footing I just started using the MFX and wow the hit where I want them to at 12 yards first shot ever hit in the kill zone.

I like the larger diameter of the ICS better. It fits the center shot of most of my bows better. And the ICS is one of the toughest arrows that I've seen. But I've only messed around with a few of the skinny arrows (9/32). There size also makes it harder to find components that fit. I don't doubt they are great arrows though.

iv had nothing but good results with the MFX shafts! never shot the ICS so can't compare against those but i love those MFX

The MFX shaft is great.  I want to try some classics 350's with a little more head weight for a heavey carbon arrow set-up sometime.  However, I am cheap so I shoot ICS Bow hunter shafts most of the time.  I can swap out inserts and nocks from other standard carbons.  It keeps it simple for me.  I also like 55/75 GT trad blems so they all work together for parts.

I can at least vouch for the ruggedness of the ICS bowhunters. I footed mine and have shot a lot of broadheads thru 3/4 inch plywood since then. By accident of course. :0) The only shaft I have broken is one that hit a twig then went sideways across some hogwire and that snapped it in half. Considering the rate it was traveling it was no surprise. The shafts are way better than I am at this point.
