so today i couldn't hunt, my little son is sick. so i decided while he was napping i woud do some informal testing with my bows. first off let me say that i dont know what or ,if any, relevance these results make in the real world of hunting but, pretty fun. i was shooting into two brand new 5in. thick phonebooks, taped together and sat up against a block target.
ok, info for the test. i use a clicker on every bow i own( short draw syndrome:) ) and the bow weight is measured at the clicker. now for each bow and arrow combo. 1. bear montana-45#,14 strand ts-1 string, shooting 2018 with 150gr. woodsman, total weight is 550grs. 2. hoyt gamemaster-44#, 14 strand D97, shooting beman 500 with a 100gr. four blade stinger, total weight is 386grs. 3. chekmate 56" hunter-46#, 10 strand D97,shooting 2018 with a 100gr. stinger, total weight is 500grs. the phonebooks were shot from 18yrds, with every bow. no spot was shot more than once. and broadheads were resharpened after each shot. the results- well the chekmate won on every shot. the broadhead would pass thru the first book completely and just enter a tad into the second book....so about 5.25". second runner up was the montana!! it would get all the way to the back cover of the first phonebook and stop, every time...so right at 5". and lastly was my beloved hoyt gamemaster, the one ive killed everything with!! the razor sharp stinger, on every single shot, would only penetrate to the BLEEDER BLADES!! thats all! i was amazed that the arrow would only do that. i sharpen these heads till they will pop hair and still thats all i got from the hoyt. sure didnt think it would turn out that way..but then again a solid thick phonebook is tough for anything to shoot thru. either way it was fun!
