Redemption
« on: October 20, 2009, 10:56:00 AM »
Let me start out with the fact that I consider myself a pretty good shot. I know my time hunting was going to be cut really really short this year with my wife in school fulltime, so I decided to take the first doe that presented me with a shot this year and still hold out for a nice buck. Well things don't always go as planned. My first night out I shoot over the back of a nice doe at about 15 yards. How did I miss that chip shot. Well a week goes by with no hunting and I find myself back in a different treestand. Right at sunup I have a nice doe and 2 fawns come down the trail at about a whopping 10 yards. Come to full draw and watch as the arrow sails perfectly over her back. Are you kidding me. I know I had a spot burned into the kill zone. Not 15 minutes later another doe and 1 fawn come down the trail and I am thinking here we go. This doe is about 13 yards from me and stops when she gets to my arrow and freezes. I hit full draw again and again watch as the arrow sails over her back. Now I am thinking I am going to toss this stick out of the tree and head right into town to buy one of those wheelie things. I am just all messed up in the head. 2 trips out and 3 does missed what is going on. I know these are pretty far shots but come on lol. I even shot in the street lights before going out that morning and put 5 arrows right in the kill of my 3d target. Well about 10 minutes after I missed the 2nd doe I see a lone doe sneeking through the woods and I honestly thought "why bother taking a shot" I was pretty depressed by now but at 25 yards she starts eating acorns and to make a long story short I made a good shot on her and she made it about 40 yards before going down. After much thought and talking with another tradganger I have come to the conclusion that for whatever reason I am not bending at the waist when shooting out of a treestand. I put up a stand in the back yard and that is exactly what was going on. I have even been practicing out of a treestand all summer but for whatever reason be it excitement or just plain not remembering. You don't really hear to much about this subject. Here are a few pics of the little doe that I shot on 10-18-2009, she is definatly not the biggest in the world but to me after all the frustration she is a true trophy! Good luck to all and remember "Bend at the waist"!

Nothing like experience. The kids have learned much already. Very nice.
