question for recurve shooters

Just recieved a beautiful chek mate raven ... It has a real quick "creak" noise towards the top limb tip when starting to draw... There is no sign of any problems. This is my first recurve and I was wondering if this is common... or if there is a way to quiet it... The bow is a 52" one piece...the noise goes away after drawing about an inch or so.. right now I have nothing for padding on the string or string grooves... whats your thoughts???

Steve, Mine does the same thing. It is the string comming away from the limb. You can do a couple things. Take your sting and soak the end in laquer thinner to take the wax out of the end and soften the string at the loops or put some mole skin or some kind of felt adhesive one th limbs. Or you can put some yarn on the ends of your sting also. Soaking the sting loops in thinner is what Bob Lee recommends with there recurves.

mole skin on the limb might help. I have a recurve, but don't have the problem you are mentioning.

Hi...sounds like wax and string sticking as you draw. tape, moleskin, talcum powder ...something like that to stop the sticking should work.
