What's the LOWEST you've ever used a tree stand?
« on: October 27, 2009, 11:00:00 PM »
He hee!

I bet I got most of you beat!

Went hunting this evening and when I got to the area I wanted to set up, I realized I'd forgotten my harness.   :banghead:

Thought about going back for it but didn't want to waste the time.  Thought about just not using it but I promised myself I'd always do my best to stay safe and get back to my wife and kids.  Oh well, guess I'll be sitting on the ground.

There was a nice leaning hedge tree handy for a back rest but I still needed something to sit on.

Here is what I ended up with...

Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Dave,

I did the same thing this year and just attached my top the tree for a seat.

Ended up almost getting a shot on a rooter that evening.

Yep, beat me by only about two feet.  In a part of the marsh I hunt, I need to just see over the top of the grass.  Its a lot lighter to carry without the climbing sticks.

I have set mine up basically as a ground stand with the platform mere inches off the ground.
Great seat, and a quiet surface to stand and shoot.
Works really well on a steep side hill.

About the same hight. I was hunting in a swampy area in a NJ Land trust area (sweet hollow) Had some brush in front of me and water at my feet. I just put my stand up just enuff to keep my feet out of the water.

I once set my stand up about 3 feet up in the dark just to get me above the underbrush.  Shot two does that morning, both from the same group.  Shot the first one and the rest cicled around a small beaver pond, right back to me.  Lucky for me a had another bonus tag.

Not that low! But a few years ago I found an area between two large sloughs that had a lot of traffic. I had a small homemade chain on treestand but I had a hardtime finding any tree that would support it. I finally did but I was only about five - six feet up. I could just barely see over the tall slough grass and cat-tails. Was the only time I got a buck to come in to rattling.
