anybody near childress, tx?
« on: April 06, 2007, 10:02:00 PM »
Looks like me and 3 other trad guys are getting on a lease up that way. Its actually in kirkland (sp?). Supposed to be lots of turkey and even some muleys. I havent even seen the place yet, but i trust the opinion of the 2 guys who have. Had a 160 whitetail taken off of it last year. Thats never a bad sign, lol. Just lookin for some insight on the area....me being an east texas boy and all.

snakewood3 lives in Childress. You might want to give him a PM.

You might try to make the Memephis shoot in May, it's close to Childress and you might meet folks from there.

I hunted the paducah area for 3 years. Took two nice whitetails and a dandy mulie. It's some rough country. Hunt the draws and play the wind...those deer are smart over there. You will probably have to hunt the ground- not much for sizeable trees where I was hunting. The deer didn't come to feeders either. They liked the green stuff better. There are some huge deer that come out of that area.Good Luck.

Amen on the tough. Durn whitetails have a lot of the mulie traits here in the Panhandle area. What you see and read about sitting in a tree on a trail don't work in a bunch of places. Their liable to be on this ridge or draw this morning, another this evening, the next county tomorrow.
There be some big deer up here though. Not uncommon for the biggest whitetail buck in the State being taken down off the cap somewhere. I took a 19" wide 8 pt. year before last close to Borger. Dont know score business but tasted good.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.
