Out of State and point systems??
« on: November 08, 2009, 05:03:00 AM »
In general... How does a point system work?? Let's say I want to start getting points in CO to hunt a really good area in afew years.. do I need to buy my hunting lic. in that state to get points each and every year?? Even if I don't plan to hunt there?? Or do I just get online each year and ask for a point to be given to me??? How does it work???

Each state is different.

Colorado will have you pay for the entire tag up front and then give you everything but $3.00 back when you don't draw.  Colorado is a true preference point state...he with the most points gets the tag.  The top quality areas in CO are going to take you DECADES as a resident--even worse for a resident--to draw.  Don't set your sights to high    ;)

Eastman's magazine and The Huntin' Fool Magazine have detailed explanations of how each draw system works if you don't want to decipher the state game department's documentation.

As Steve-O said they are all different and there is not enough room or time here to explain them all and you may need the help of a lawyer but you can find most of the info you seek on the fish and game websites including harvest info for each unit and number of points needed to draw in most cases.I subscribe to Eastmans and HuntinFool and both are great resources HuntinFool has more information but costs about 4 times as much($100 a year).Bill

I tried reading the Fish and Game websites  for a few states... Can't make heads nor tails of um?  Was hoping that their was a common format that they all used??? Why does everything have to get lawyerized???
