$200 PSE BLACKHAWK Any reviews?
« on: November 08, 2009, 10:14:00 PM »
Howdy!
I was doing a little shopping today for a hunting recurve and remembered the PSE BLACKHAWK-

It's 60 inches long and looks pretty nice. 35- 50 pounds available.

Wondering what others have to say about it. Looks pretty nice from the info I've seen.

I've shown it to a few of my friends and they seemed interested, since most of us cannot afford $1000 custom recurves. This one seems to be a good middle of the road hunter and field bow.

Very interested in what you guys have to share.

Thanks!

Dean

No, they've had it for a year or two, but it is in the current 2010 lineup.

Now another question, what poundage would most people get it in?   :)

I'm thinking about getting mine in 45 pound for turkey and goose hunting.

The bow looks great and I have to say I like PSE all my wheelies were PSE and my longbow is to.I have never had a problem with any of their equipment.

I've been eyeing that bow myself.  I'm new to trad shooting and am looking at getting one in 50# draw.  They do look good, will soon find out how they shoot...

I have anoher friend who plans on getting the 50 pound version. I'm still on the fence about poundage, but still thinking 45 pounds.

Mine should be arriving next week.

Hi Dean
How have you found your new Blackhawk? I shot one last weekend at my LAS and thought it was pretty smooth, but, I'm new to this whole thing.  Really interested in your reply, I'm tempted to run over and pick it up this weekend.  Interested in others opinions as well. Thanks

Hate to be a wet blanket.

PSE stands for  Piece of S... Equipment.

I have 5 of them. 1 wheel bow. It is the best of the five.( and the reason I bought the others)
3 recurves and 1 long bow. They are all PoSE.

I appreciate your opinion. Anyone have more acceptable quality entry level bows that they have shot and like? I've spent a little time in the classifieds here but as a new member am hesitant to go that route.

My first trad bow was a PSE Impala. I bought it about 8 years ago and still have it and it still shoots fine.  I killed 2 deer with it my first year hunting with the bow so I for one have no complaints about PSE.  As a matter of fact it is the bow in my avatar.

I can't say it is on equal footing as my Crow Creek but it did the job.

I bought a PSE Blackhawk (take down with "knobs" instead of bolts, 50#) almost 2 decades ago. I think (?) the older ones were made for PSE by Samick. I have shot the hell out of this, thousands upon thousands of arrows, and it has never given me ANY issues. I even got a running Turkey with it a couple of years ago. I can't speak for the quality or maker of the newer PSE recurves, as I have not seen or shot one. I bought this one at the time because it was what I could afford. But looking back 20 years ago, I wished that I had saved my money (or used a credit card) and ordered a custom Gamemaster bow from Jack Howard, or at least bought a Bear Super Kodiak or a Martin Hunter. The old PSE has preformed well for me, and I have no complaints. I refer to it as my all weather "Beater Bow". It is a heavy, rugged bow. It looks different than the new PSE Blackhawk, and I think Samick still makes the model I have, but under a different name (Sage?). It looks almost identical, and is only $129.95 @ 3-Rivers Archery. I paid $240.00 or so almost 20 years ago for my PSE!  Today, in a due over, I would look for a new, or a good used Bear Super Kodiak or a Martin Hunter, in 55# to 65#. I just look at things different now and prefer US made bows, for the pride of ownership. I'm only going this way once!

I have a PSE Coyote set up for bow fishing. It can cast a fiberglass arrow very well.  I used it for 3d shooting awhile back and it shot well, alittle loud, but I didn't have any silencers on it.

The Blackhawk is imported from China, and the yote is made in the USA.  You can pick up the Yote for another $40.00.
