For those who like headlamps...check this one out!
« on: November 10, 2009, 06:58:00 PM »
This is from the same company who makes the Wensel's Maim Beam flashlight.

It is called the Fenix HP10.

The Fenix HP10 is the world's brightest headlamp that runs off AA batteries. At 225 lumens, the HP10 will let you see everything in front of you without burdening your hands.

The HP10 features four different levels of output, allowing you to dim the light as low as 7 lumens - which will run for up to 210 hours!

* Cree XR-E LED (Q%) with lifespan of 50,000 hours
* 4 output levels, 3 flashing modes
Levels: 7 lumens (210 hrs) >> 50 lumens (22 hrs) >> 120 lumens (7.5 hrs) >> 225 lumens (total 2.5 hrs)
Flash modes: Strobe (5 hrs) >> SOS (50 hrs) >> Warning Flash (44 hrs)
* Max lighting distance (throw): 120 meters
* Dual switch system with easy operation - one for on/off, the other for output adjustment
* Digitally regulated output - maintains constant brightness
* Memorizes last output level
* Overheating protection: lamp goes back to high output after 3 minutes continuously in Turbo mode
* Uses four 1.5v AA (Alkaline, Ni-MH, Lithium) batteries, inexpensive and widely available
* Separated structure to balance weight for comfort while wearing
* Light body: 54 mm (length) * 43 mm (width) 33.5 mm (height)
*Battery pa8ck: 84 mm (length) * 64 mm (width) 21 mm (height)
* Light head is made of aircraft-grade aluminum; the rest is high quality plastic
* Premium Type III hard-anodized anti-abrasive finish
* Weight: Light body: 40g, Battery pack: 77g (not including batteries)
* Waterproof to IPX-8 standard (Submerge 2 meters deep for 30 minutes continuous lighting)
* Toughened ultra-clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating

the problem with that model is the battery pack on the back of your head

if you are lying down and reading in your tent your head is resting on the battery pack

if you are working under a sink on the plumbing the battery pack is under your head

working under a car - same thing

I like BRITE LED headlights that run on AAs or AAAs but I want the battery pack in the front - behind the light so I can use it laying on my back

this is my Brinkman LED headlight that uses 3- AAAs

I think that would be the ultimate hunting headlamp Chris!  Who sells them?

Thanks Chris, didn't even knew they made one. I'll have to look into this when my LED/Lenser headlamp kicks the bucket.

Apex, I just did a search on google and came up with quite a few dealers. $60-70

I will stick with my badlands. The battery on the back makes it hard to wear it pulls the front up I had one like it didn't like it.Maybe do a product test and give us a breakdown of how well it worked in a hunting situation.

If you have a Wensel main beam...they have a head band that it slides into as well.

Wow, 225 lumens is bright. I just picked up one of the cheaper Petzl models today. I like it, but I miss my $20 coleman from Academy.

I have a Coleman XRE that works great...$24.88, 105 lumens which seems plenty bright to me on a dark morning or evening.  I guess with 255 you can probably spot deer.

I like my Streamlight.   :thumbsup:  Like Capt Jack says, the lights with the battery pack in the back don't work for me.

I've used the wensel headband with my mainbeam and it seems just fine to me.  The great thing about the mainbeam is the many features it has to adjust the light.

What is the 'quality' of the so-called white light emitted by these LED's?
I have a nausea response to this type of light, are these headlamps even close to incandescent spectrum?
