no time to bowhunt

well since starting college this year I can count on one hand how many times ive gone hunting this season  :(  school is more important and I know thats what I need to focus on but I get a month off for christmas, thats a month of solid bowhunting, and I have a new bow comming in then too    any other students having the same problem?

You are doing the right thing by making your college education a priority. December is a great time to be out bow hunting. Don't worry, do what you must when you must, and do what you want when you can.

I got my second degree 17 years ago and I still don't have enough time to bowhunt all I want. Stay in school, work hard, but never pass up an opportunity to go hunt if you can help it. The best time to hunt, is when you can. Wish I knew that when I was your age.

I am not in school but raising a young family and have only hunted a handful of times.....think I am very blessed to get out that much!!

Ian,

Your college years will interfere with bowhunting and other stuff.  But they are years to treasure as they are end of the age of innocence.  Soon you will be out in the real world and work and family and other stuff will be cause hunting to be put on the back burner.

I guess what I'm saying is enjoy the time you get in the woods but make sure to enjoy the other time too.

Im not hunting much this year, not as much as back in the day.My sons are getting older and getting involved in yearlong baseball programs and I put in all my spare time to be with them and help them out.At first it was hard but after a while you realise its whats most important.Hang in there and take care of business and youll be rewarded.

One day you will look back and say, "holy drainpipes batman....where did the years go"  Hopefully, by the time you are out of college, your degree will still be useable 8^).  Good luck, you will have plenty of time to hunt if you picked a good major.  

BTW, my grandaughter starts college in the spring.  Yep....she was just born a short time ago.  :confused:

I didnt get much hunting in when I was in school (2 years ago), but I can you for sure that it paid off.  Now I have much more time and earning capacity.  Just hunt when you can and cherish every moment, your days are still ahead.

When I got to high school I actually hunted less and picked it back up again when in college.  After college I had more time to hunt.  Kids cut your hunting time down for a while, but when they get a little older and you include them your hunting time goes back up.

My philosophy is I hunt and fish when I can and try not to worry about when the best time is.  Often I find when I have patience and pay attention the "bad" times to go out are some of the best.  It's a state of mind.

Well Ian, I hate to burst your bubble but.....      

I'm not in school,actualy I never even finished High School. I quit school     :(    and joined the Marines back in 1978    :rolleyes:    I'm 49 years old. Actualy, The Marines taught me alot. I grew up fast and learned alot about teamwork and reasponsabilty. I got married to my wonderful wife Lisa in 1987 and have 2 terrific sons,Kevin 19 and Tyler 10.

Over the years,hunting has been "feast or famine" LOL!!!!! Right now Kevin is in college so I work as much as I can to pay his tuition. Back in 1999 Lisa went back to school to get her Bacholers degree in Nursing,she is now working as a Registered Nurse.(2 jobs actualy,1 full time and 1 per diem) I have worked for the Rail Road for 22 years. Crazy hours,double shifts,and 7 day weeks are the norm. I do get 5 weeks vacation every year that I pick for during hunting season every year. The deal with my wife is,if she wants to go anywhere or do anything during the year,I can change my vacation,then whats left is mine for hunting. This year I had 2 weeks left,the first 2 weeks of Nov. However, things don't always go as planned LOL!!!!! Things need to be done around the house,winter is coming fast. Lisa was offered a sweet deal with her per diem job and has been working every day so I have to get Tyler up and ready for school,then be here when he gets home. Like today, It's Veteran's Day!!! Tyler is home and Lisa is working,guess who's not hunting??? LOL.Being a "Dad" is a VERY tough and important job. I will leave you with this advice.....

Go to school,study hard!!! Your edjucation will help you greatly in the long run!!!!! Also,though they may be few, NEVER take any day in the woods for granted!!!!! They are all precious and will be memories for years. Lastly, NEVER let the fire die!!!!!      

There is always "next year"..... That's what keeps me going!!!!!

I too have hunted less this year than in past.Economy has made any work my buisness gets the priority.
You are taken the right path w/ your education being first and I wish luck w/ hunting on your break.

I'm in my last year at University, so time is pretty dear.
Bowhunting is illegal here...I'm going back to New Zealand when I get my degree.

I go to college only 30 minutes from my house and I have wednesdays and fridays off so I normally get to hunt those days plus the weekend so I'm pretty lucky but if I get into dental school year after next that will all change ha

When I was in school I picked class times around hunting.  Over loaded in spring and slacked off on them in fall.  Nothing has ever effected my hunting!  I'm rolling over 100 hours of Vacation for next year, getting close to drawing sheep or goat.  If I draw I will have the hole season off!
