So far AD Hammer Heads prove positive during testing(Results)
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:55:00 PM »
So I just purchased some new Arrow Dynamics Hammerhead trad lites to test out. I haven't had time to get them fletched up, but so far they prove positive.

First let me give some kudos to 3rivers. I ordered the shafts with G nock adapters and footing collars on Friday, and received them this Monday. Nothing but stellar service from them.

Last night I glued them all up, using JB weld. I must say I had a little trouble fumbling with the footing and trying to clean off the excess glue while inserting the insert. Next time I'll do all the footing first, wait for the glue to cure, then do the inserts. G nock adapters were fine. I didnt notice any weakness with the AD nocks as Ive heard before, but I dont have any older ones to compare them to. I did notice the ill fitment of the inserts without the footing. The footing fixes this. I did notice that the full length shafts were NOT square by any means. They needed to be cleaned up quite a bit on my G5 arrow squaring devise. Looks like they were cut by hand with a hack saw.

Today I still had very little time to test them, but I did sneak out in between honey do chores. I still haven't figured out why Im doing chores on my favorite Soldiers holiday.

I draw to 27.5" right handed
I shot 3 arrows tipped with 125 grain field tips from:
1956 Kodiak 38# @ 28"
Bear Montana 45# @ 28"
66" ACS 50# @ 28"
RER Arroyo 55# @ 28"
62" ACS 57# @ 28"

The Hammerhead Lites are spined for bows between 35-55# AD doesn't recommend bare shafting, but I had no choice right now, and it was killing me to shoot them.

Every bow grouped these arrows to the same exact spot from 15 yards. 3" low and 4" to the right with the nocks pointing to the left, except the Kodiak. The Kodiak to my surprise was shooting them dead center with a very slight nock left. All the other bows are high performance, cut past center bows. The Kodiak is definitely not cut to center. Im figuring that once fletched, these arrows will fly nicely from all bows across its weight range. The Montana was by far the most quiet. I plan on keeping these arrows full length.

I also have a 1/2 dozen Grizzly Stik Sitkas that I havent had ANY luck with during testing. They shoot great out of my 50# ACS but thats it. They look nice, but they arent broad spectrum like the AD's. I also found them to not be very durable. I have broken the first inch off two of them during bad shots.

I still have a few more bows to test, like a Toelke Whip at 60" 48#, and many other classic Bear ambidextrous bows, so stay tuned over the next week for more results.
And I still need to fletch these up.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8
