Grizzly broadhead question
« on: November 13, 2009, 01:04:00 PM »
I want to try the new left wing Grizzly broadheads. I was wondering if the 160 grain head would give the same desired effect on bone that Dr. Ashby describes or am I restricted to the El Grande to get that desired effect?

I am not sure, but I think Grizzly's only come in right wing bevels.  they are all pretty close relative to Rockwell scale, so the 125 grain in theory is as hard or soft as the 145,160 and 190 grain heads.

However, if you are looking for left wing single bevels, ABoyer, and Tusker make great heads.  Also KME sells them with the correct angle ground and pre sharpened if you are interested.

No,the new Gizzlies come in right and left and have the 25% angle. There may be a very slight difference in blade thickness and or blade angle between the new 160 and 200 Grizzlies but not enough for you or me to worry about.I personally wouldn't hesitate to use the 160's on elk or moose,if that is what my setup called for,weight-wise.

Elbow, If im not mistaken 160 and 190s are considered the "El Grande". As far as effect on bone I think that it has more to do with the single bevel blade. You should be fine with the 160s. 190s are only 30 grains more, you should be able to use those if you can use the 160s. Just my .2 cents worth. Good Luck

JimB.

Thanks for the update.  I might have to look into the left bevel heads, I love the Grizzly, especially if the Bevel is improved.

The "El Grande's are a larger overall size. I have 150 and 190 El Grande's and 125 and 160 "regular" size. I think the 150 El Grandes feel a little flimsy although haven't tested that theory but I like the regular size grizzly 160 and the EG 190's  Don't have any of the newer grind obviously.
.. just a few more cents into the conversation.

I just got a dozen, the new blades have made a great blade perfect.  They fly great they sharpen easy (already ground to 25 degrees with a tanto tip) And the demolish bone.  I hit a mature doe in the thick of her spine, complete penetration to the fletching demolishing a vertebra.  The price for the heads was $25.50/6 and $28.50/6 for the larger heads. Shipping cost is $5. Make sure you specify right or left wing on your order.

I got them from:
