Trick shot bow weight
« on: November 14, 2009, 10:30:00 PM »
Do you know what weight bow guys shoot who do the trick shots?

I'm getting decent with my bow but thinking about getting a really light bow to "play with". Maybe 30#. Seems like it would be great to work with during the off season too. Does anyone do this?

nightowl,
I shoot and hunt with bows from 46 to 55lbs,
but a lot of time, in the backyard, I shoot an old "B" riser Bear takedown at 35#  just for fun and to reinforce my form.  I don't do any "trick" shooting, but the light bow is a lot of fun!,
Get a light bow and have a blast!

the trick shots that I know about have shoot pretty heavy draw bows.  I think to hit asprins in the air arrow speed is gonna be pretty important.  Come to think of it I guess arrow diameter would be pretty ussful.

well I'm definitely not moving up to that weight. I will definitely get a light bow when I finish school to shoot around. Might make for a good rabbit and dove bow too!

I was just curious if guys were using a lighter bow to better their control.

nightowl - i think that is a good idea.  I saw a TV clip about B. Ferguson.  Said he shoot 40,000 arrows a year.  Now that is a lot of shots.

Nightowl1,

If I were gonna try getting into trick shooting, I'd probably want to shoot the same bow I hunt with.  You know, there's the old saying about beware of the man with one gun, he likely knows how to use it.  I really believe that to be really good, you have to stick to one bow and shoot it for everything.  Now, ya might have to play the field for a while till you find that "one bow" that works best for you but once you do, stick to it like glue.
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.
