TN hog hunt w/ pics
« on: April 08, 2007, 07:55:00 PM »
I went on the 2nd honeymoon hog hunt last week, the trip was amazing, You folks from Tn are lucky, that beatiful country. I hunted at wilderness hunting lodge they were great, I decided to use the dogs and must say that an experince that I will not soon forget. I've bear hunted all my life and hog-doggin is better by far!

The first hog was an all t-gang hog, meaning everything was bought or given to me from other members.
stillwater longbow- bowmac
arrowws- mr. Rowan in TX
grip- 4rnr
quiver- stringcutter
string- carboncaster
b-heads-tusker aztecs from Tusker, Ace 200 from Ray Hammond.
regrettabley the pics didn't show up on the memory card? The hog went about 130-150 lbs I hit her the first time with the Aztec which did awsome broke the off-side shoulder and hit a rock 15yds beyond the pig. She ran about 50yds and the dogs caught and I plugged her again with an ace super express and broke the nearside shoulder.....no shoulders= no more running!! That stillwater longbow is truly something, thanks Bowmac. I'll tell the story of the 2nd hog when big Ron posts the pics for me.

naw that's great. well this was the only morning I was at the lodge, after breakfast I wondered around looking for hogs and saw a huge huge one but couldn't get close enough for a shot... there were several other eyes working for him. I caught up with the guide about 8;30 and got the dogs, it was about twenty minutes before we heard anything. They sounded at the top of the mountain so up we go, when we got there the dogs are bayed in a treetop we can see more than on hog but not how many. they finally breakout and there's 6 very unhappy piggie's buffalo standing the dogs that were the pic of me below the hogs comes in, they fight and walk but not busting up. Finally one leaves the rest and down the mountain we go, bout halfway down the hog goes around and the guide says ," he's heading to the pond at the top let's go",......so back to the top my fat rearend goes again. We get there and he's in the pond fighting the dogs making very un porky like sound, I get to about 15yds and take my shot. The arrow bury's up to the fletching, a little high but in the lungs beleive it or not, the hog not really impressed with the new peirceing, decides to come have a word with me about it. Yep I got charged!!! Honestly at about the same time I got truly scared motherless he decided to turn at a distance of about 3 feet, it still counts right? anyway he went back down that damn mountain again but was thoughtful enough to die at full throttle 100yds from were I stuck him. to all who have never tried dogs I would highly suggest this it's a blast!!!

Dude,,, I've been there before,, I had  BLAST,,, great place and great folks too. the guide looked at my quiver as I had four arrows in it and he chukled and said,"Boy ya betta get U sum moor arras" end quote,, I put my bore down with a great single shot in the heart,,, but the first arrow had to clear the way of any brush  :knothead:

I'm glad you liked the place Curveman. That one dog, looks like a Catahoula, was it blind in one eye? It looks just like the one they had when I was there. If it is he's got to be pretty dang old by now. Did you see some of them goats and sheep that they have? Thinkin' about going back and trying for one them. That place sure has the game!
Life is hard, but it's harder if you're stupid.

That little b/w pup in the 4th pic is one of the friendliest(but stinkiest)dogs I've ever come across but he sure has his game face on there with the hog. Was with Ontario Longbow on the hunt a week ago. Looks like you had a great time as well !! Good stuff, congrats.
