Young archer in the works!
« on: November 17, 2009, 03:24:00 PM »

My "almost 2 yr. old" grandson got to put on dad's armguard and glove...oh boy!

He looks pretty excited! That's kind of the way I feel when opening day finally arrives! haha  What a kid. I think he'll come along just fine. Can't wait to share time with him in the woods. Yep, he's quite a blessing.

I am still laughing at the perfect shot of the dog in the first pic!

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

That is awsome. The bow club that i shoot at made a special catagory for my oldest when he was that age, "under 2 longbow".  He won every time he went, he was the only one in that group. lol

I was told by someone that I should duct tape an "O" ring on the shelf of a bow. That way he can hold the bow and not worry or fuss with trying to keep the arrow on the shelf while he draws the arrow back. Thought that might work pretty good. But first I need to get to building him a bow!
How did you go about it Bornagainbowhunter? Any suggestions would be appreciated by anyone. Thanks, David

My sons first bow is actually pretty special.  I have a friend who tought me how to shoot traditional, that was given a bow stave by Ben Pearson.  Long story short, the bow had broken and Ron used it to make Possum his first bow.  Kinda cool way to get a first bow. As for keeping the arrow on the shelf, i just started my son shooting canted (as I do) from the very begining.  With light poundage they dont roll the string much to pull the arrow off of the shelf.  Ron has also worked some with my son to get him shooting right.  It is nice to have such a guy teaching, you can learn alot from listing to a guy like Ron.  He has on the Ben Pearson shoot about 20 times or more and has won the traditional 3-D "world shoot" at BPS in Springdale 3 or 4 times.  He is pretty salty.
